Going the Distance James Johnson '89, John McCarthy '89, Jon Walton '89, and Colin Bryar '89 at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. (Continued from page 1) sitions, including a two-year stint as technical advisor to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. "Pattern matching has allowed me to help RedMart avoid some of the mistakes we made and double down on some of the positive things we did at Amazon," Colin said. "I also learned quite a bit about the similarities and difference between doing business in Southeast Asia and the U.S." From an early age, Colin loved computer soft- ware. He remembers that the first computer he got his hands on was a TRS-80 with four kilo- bytes of memory. Colin spent hours on end ex- ploring what he could do with it, and views to- day's technology with a similar mindset. Just like technology has developed over the years, so have Colin's friendships. Colin's suc- cess has been inspired by the various accom- plishments of his Delt brothers. "It's been fun, but not surprising, to observe what the Beta Omicron Delt brothers I met have achieved," Colin said. "I am fortunate to have such a talented group of experts I can turn to for advice on a wide array of matters." Colin was able to catch up with a few members of his pledge class a few months ago when he went to a concert at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado with James Johnson '89, John McCa- rthy '89, Brian Richter '89 and Jon Walton '89. "The Shelter has the uncanny ability to take a set of strangers and in short order turn them into lifelong friends," Colin said. "I hope that this trend can continue in the future, too." The advice Colin would give to the undergrad- uates and recent graduates of Beta Omicron is, "You will spend most of your time on the jour- ney rather than the destination. So, try to pick a field you are passionate about. If you do that, you'll increase your chances of being one of the lucky few whose career also happens to be their calling." Colin is thankful that he has been able to do that with the support of his wife and two children. "They keep me grounded and help put things in perspective, no matter what's happened during the day," Colin said. You can connect with Colin on LinkedIn or Facebook.
