F or the "Unofficial" Safety Workshop, Campus Police Officer Robert Murphy came in and discussed staying safe on UI- UC's most dangerous holiday, "Unofficial." e university is doing its best to try and get rid of this holiday, with many rules and fines being put in place—especially on fraternities and their mem- bers. ey have good reason, though: this holiday has led to many serious injuries and even deaths in recent years. We felt this would be an appropriate workshop because it taught our members how to stay safe and keep themselves, fellow broth- ers, and students safe. Officer Murphy's presentation provided the opportunity for us to experience a unique perspective. rough the education and the discouragement of participation in this holiday, we are doing our best to help get rid of "Unofficial" and help keep our members and community safe. W e are proud to announce that five of our members joined together to enter and WIN the 2019 Claro Healthcare Case Competition! Sponsored by Claro Healthcare of Chicago in association with the Office of Undergraduate Affairs of the Gies Col- lege of Business at the U. of I., it is an open competition for sopho- mores and juniors looking to sharpen their analytical skills and gain real world experience assembling business plans and solutions against a set of real-world hypotheticals in the healthcare field. We put togeth- er a team of five members who competed as the "Lambda Chi Alpha" team against several other entrants, including groups from Illinois Business Consulting, EntreCorps, and the Phi Chi eta professional business fraternity. Our team was given information on the case on April 4, and presented their solutions on April 12. e case focused on increasing a hospital's fi- nancial health and bottom line. ey worked to come up with data-backed solutions to improve efficiency, and provide high quality care. e team analyzed inpatient discharges, outpatient charge capture, observation rate and observation length of stay, and excess days with DRG analysis.
