Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima, one of the greatest battles in Marine Corps history. This is a small, quick ceremony but everyone is welcome to join the Young Marines in honoring those who fought that day. The Marine Corps League Detachment #1140 has been invited as the honored guests. The Young Marines gladly welcome our country's veterans of all branches of the military. Mandated Reporter/Child Abuse Reporting Informational Workshop The Tehama County Child Abuse Prevention Council is offering an informational mandated reporter and child abuse reporting workshop at no cost to all community leaders working with children throughout the county. Aimed at community professionals, volunteers and other interested community members, this workshop will provide an understanding of the mandatory reporter process and knowledge of how to appropriately proceed in making a report. This is also an opportunity to gain insight from the perspective of local representatives from child Welfare, law enforcement and the Family Law Court. This workshop is being offered on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the Red Bluff Community Center located at 1500 South Jackson St. Two duplicate workshops will be offered, one session from 2-4 p.m. and another from 68 p.m. Registration deadline is Feb. 25. DAILY NEWS RED BLUFF TEHAMA COUNTY CattleWomen to pick ambassadors The public is invited to attend the Tehama County CattleWomen's Beef Ambassador Contest on Saturday, February 23. Both a Junior and a Senior Beef Ambassador will be selected for 2013. The event will be held at the Tehama County Farm Bureau office, 275 Sale Lane, Red Bluff. The public part of the contest begins at 5:30 p.m. with each contestant answering consumer questions about beef products and the cattle industry. Prior to the public meeting, the contestants will have a personal interview, a media interview and will write a response to a current beef industry issue. Seeking the 2013 Senior Beef Ambassador title are 16 year old Taylor Collins of Red Bluff and l7 year old Katie Mura from Corning. Trying out to represent the beef industry as Junior Ambassador are fifteen year old Kevin Dean from Los Molinos; Danielle Mueller, 15, from Red Bluff and Natalie Renfroe, 16, also from Red Bluff. Carrie Rohr, chairman of the Beef Ambassador Contest, says that the contest provides a great way for the contestants to learn public speaking skills while they educate the public about the beef industry. She says that the ambassadors will receive scholarships at the end of their term. The Tehama County CattleWomen have a history of success with the local, state and national Beef Ambassador program. In 2004 Dallas Wood from Vina was named Tehama County Beef Ambassador. She went on to win the California Beef Ambassador title and was one of five national beef spokespersons. Michelle Wiggley of Red Bluff won the Tehama County Beef Ambassador in 2007 and won the California Beef Ambassador contest. She traveled to New Orleans where she also was selected to be one of five National Beef Council spokespersons. In 2009 Stacy Stroing was the Tehama County Junior Beef Ambassador.
