Beta Tau Housing Corporation of Sigma Kappa at the University of Florida • Spring 2019 Beta Tau ConnSKtion A fter a decade of service as treasurer of the Beta Tau Housing Corporation, it is bitter- sweet to write my last financial report to you. In this time, we have accomplished so much, but I am excited to start my next chapter serving in other roles within Sigma Kappa. This also opens the door for other leaders to step up and serve our membership. I am pleased to see current board members take new roles and welcome new faces who will continue strengthening our support of the chapter for the future. Current Funds It gives me great pleasure to report that the house corporation is operating in a fiscally sound man- ner. As of January 2019, we had $466,133.96 cash available for operations, $133,420.21 in housing and furnishing cash, and $106,279.69 in reserve savings. What does that financial jargon mean? From operations we pay our mortgage, utilities, insur- ance, maintenance, staff, food service company, and more. Our housing and furnishing fund is a protected account, only usable for updates like equipment, furnishings, and decor. We have a long-term plan we follow for redoing areas of the chapter house to keep it fresh and operating smoothly. Last, reserve savings is a protected account required by NHC and our lender. It's a rainy day fund that must be in place at least until we satisfy our loan and must increase to $250,000 within the next three years. We have been operating in the black for many years and Building a Brighter Future for Sigma Kappa Read more about our volunteers on p. 2! only see the financial picture improving with a steady, active membership.
