While it is not recommended to replace the paper version of a newsletter with entirely web-based communication, many alumnae are interested in receiving news and information about the chapter and fellow alumnae via the website or periodic email updates. In fall 2018, Minnesota Alpha began hosting "Monday Night Dinners" for alumnae. Several alumnae mentioned that they liked this idea and appreciated the invitation but found it difficult to attend due to the timing and location of the event. Some commented on the evening traffic and others were discouraged from attending due to parking. While the event might not be a good option for all, these events are a way to begin inviting alumnae back to the chapter house. A proper alumnae relations program should include a written calendar of alumnae "friendraising" events; university social and athletic activities are possible additions to fraternity events. Events held in areas with high alumnae concentrations such as Minneapolis and St. Paul are also recommended. Each event should be properly announced in newsletters and online, with personal invitations sent to alumnae, previous attendees, and distinguished guests six to eight weeks prior to the events. Quality photos should be taken at all events and used for event recap articles for newsletters. Guest lists should also be kept at each event, and all alumnae should be given the opportunity to verify or update their address, phone, and email. Overall, a comprehensive alumnae relations program is essential to the strength and success of an organization. Minnesota Alpha alumnae need to be knowledgeable about and feel connected to the chapter and other alumnae to increase their interest in and support of a possible capital campaign. Establishing an alumnae relations program can help strengthen the success of future fundraising efforts.
