Page 3 Sigma Phi Epsilon Cal Delta Awarded for Excellent Performance T he last few months of 2018 have been both eventful and successful for the Cal Delta Chapter. Our end-of-the-year chapter awards included reception of the Dean's Trophy, IFC Chapter of the Year, Highest IFC GPA, Dedication to Academic Achievement award, Most Athletic IFC Chapter, as well as placing first in terms of accreditation with the school. TOP RANKED ACADEMIC CHAPTER The cumulative chapter GPA for last semester was a 3.26. This placed us as the top-performing IFC chapter. Not only was it a .05 increase from last semester, but it was our highest ever cumulative chapter GPA. In response, we were awarded the Dedication to Academic Achievement award and highest IFC GPA. Our academic success and improvement is supported by our devoted Faculty Fellow Christine Probett, who offers a weekly academic success class to our new members as well as those struggling with their GPA. THOUSANDS RAISED FOR SAN DIEGO ORGANIZATIONS Our most recent and largest philanthropy was the SigEp Sun Cup. Cal Delta teamed up with Chapters from UCSD and USD and partnered with sororities to raise over $2,000 for the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Diego. Cal Delta also took initiative and created feed the homeless events, in which other chapters are invited to prepare food which we then bring to downtown San Diego. "It's great to come together and give back to the community when we can. It's one of the many things I love about SigEp," Grant Huggins '20, VP programming, said. 35 MEN RECRUITED The fall recruitment season was strong. We were eager to continue our recruitment skills after receiving the Talent Power award at the last Carlson Leadership Academy. We are proud to announce a new class of 35 new members for fall of 2018. We are also excited to announce that this is the first new member class that has been able to fully integrate and utilize the BMP app, an online platform. "This is a very strong class of motivated young men, and I am excited to see what great things they will accomplish in the future with Cal Delta," Luke Newquist '20, VP recruitment, said. Cal Delta holds regular community service events pairing with different sororities on campus. One of our favorites is regular beach cleanups with the ladies of Pi Phi. Most recently Cal Delta paired with the ladies of Alpha Phi for our "Feeding the Homeless" event. Additionally, to benefit the Greek community at San Diego State, Cal Delta hosted an alcohol awareness and safety class, featuring Ph.D. and public speaker Lori Bednarchik, with over 100 attendees from representatives of different fraternities across campus in attendance. CAMPUS REPRESENTATION Cal Delta maintains a strong presence on campus with members Quinn Toohey '19 and Jacob Mahony '20 serving on the executive board for the College of Business. Jacob also serves as IFC President, alongside Luke who serves as IFC vice president of recruitment. ALUMNI AND PARENT INVOLVEMENT Our chapter held a number of events to celebrate and involve our alumni and parents. Some of the events included the Alumni BBQ, SigEp Mom's Weekend, alumni recruitment events, and our GPA Steak Dinner. These events allowed us to interact with our alumni and parents to thank them for their many contributions and show them the state of Cal Delta. THE FUTURE OF CAL DELTA Cal Delta closed out intramurals last year as champions in football. We look forward to participating and winning this year as well. We are optimistic for the coming year. With full functioning implementation of the BMP app, we are excited to continue growing in excellence. Fraternally, Alec Netski '21 President sigepcaldelta@gmail.com Brothers at the SigEp Sun Cap.
