This recognition came at the end of last year, at a Greek Life Award Ceremony. "A great chapter always makes an advisor look good," Ron said after the ceremony. CA Delta also received overall IFC recognition for academic programming and for top IFC GPA, coming in at 3.26. This was the highest ever overall chapter GPA for CA Delta. The CA Delta AVC is expanding with outstanding new, younger talent. Thanks to the ground work and encouragement of Troy Hanson, Valpo '02 and Kevin Kwoka '11, we now have 11 young(er) alumni that are beginning to engage with the undergraduate chapter. The list includes: Jonathan Carbaugh '09 Dan White '10 Kevin Kwoka '11 Josh Roush '11 Connor Shean '11 Jimmy Yaji'11 These guys are extremely busy with new relationships, new children, and new careers. Yet, they remember their undergraduate days with fondness and respect, and want to give back now. For anyone interested in serving, it is quite easy. You simply have to express interest and reach out to any one of them, or any active AVC member, old or new. Engagement can look different for each individual. Most often, the most helpful engagement doesn't include leaving home and going to a meeting. Really, who likes meetings? Instead, what is needed is communication between an undergraduate leader and a mentor that can talk them through issues and road blocks so that chapter leaders can better do their jobs. If you don't know how to get in touch with these guys, email Ron at ronsred12@cox.net or call at (760) 480-8190. 2018 NEW MEMBER ROSTER Random Musings Mitchell Scott '12 Tyler Stearns '12 Jeremy Poincenot '13 Andrew Frazier '16 Morgan Hatch '18 California Delta Chapter www.sigepcaldelta.com Sigma Phi Epsilon www.sigep.org Facebook www.facebook.com/ sigepcaldelta November 1, 1901: SigEp Founder's Day When we become members, we hear the story of our fraternity's founding. It is an important part of our lore. Each year, SigEp celebrates Founder's Day all around the country, with special emphasis at our Fraternity Headquarters, Zollinger House, near the University of Richmond. For two CA Delta AVC members, Order of the Golden Heart recipient Skip Dahlkamp '63 and Ron Smith '69, the draw of this Founder's Day resulted in a trip to Richmond. Aside from the obvious interest in any Founder's Day celebration, this one had a unique and powerful twist. The fraternity was dedicating a Headquarters Annex, thanks to a large donation by Southern California alumnus, past Grand President, SigEp Citation winner, Lifetime Trustee, and Order of the Golden Heart recipient, Garry Kief '70. The Annex is the new home of the SigEp Educational Foundation. One feature of the new Annex is the Foundation Board Room. At the Board of Governor's Weekend in Palm Springs last summer, attendees had the opportunity to purchase chairs to be placed at the Board Room Table. The chairs were dedicated to a person or group that holds special significance to a chapter or an individual SigEp. Your CA Delta AVC responded with purchasing a chair dedicated to CA Delta alumnus, 1st Lt. Steve Joyner. The chair is featured in the photos accompanying this article. Now and well into the future, all who visit SigEp Headquarters and experience the Board Room will be reminded about Brother Steve's sacrifice. It was a rewarding and energizing experience to finally visit Richmond, our founding university, and SigEp Headquarters. We highly recommend that you make it a point to take the trip, and the sooner the better. Ca DelTa CelebraTes founDer's Day
