KanSaS BEta PAGE 3 K ansas Beta welcomed 28 new members this fall. On Saturday, August 18, our new members participated in Greek serenades. Serenades provide the men of the Greek com- munity the opportunity to bond with each other by creating, rehearsing, and performing a song and dance for the women of the Greek commu- nity and organized living houses. In addition to providing an icebreaker opportunity, serenades allows new members to become oriented with the location of other Greek-letter housing orga- nizations. Serenades is an entertaining event for K-State women and are a tradition that students look forward to year after year. MANNERS MATTER We had an etiquette lesson to kick off our Wednesday night formal dinners. Our etiquette lesson was taught by outgoing Chapter Advisor Pat Pesci '91, affectionately called Mr. Man- ners. Pat covered how to conduct yourself during a job interview meal, including when to excuse yourself from the table, what drink to order, where to place your silverware when you are fin- ished eating, and many more tips and tricks. He even warned us of the many different things that could go wrong. For years Pat has been teaching etiquette dinners offering advice, tips, and tricks. He has had the chance to instruct Bill Snyder's football team, the Kansas State basketball team, and offered etiquette dinners to student groups on campus. We are incredibly grateful for all Pat does for our Chapter—thank you, Mr. Manners! DATE NIGHTS Kansas Beta continues to be the only fraternity at Kansas State that participates in non-alcohol- ic date nights, which give our new members the opportunity to meet all the new members in other sororities. Our first date night of the year was with Tri Delta decorating sugar cookies. We will be do- ing a date night once a week, featuring activities such as carving pumpkins, ice skating, sand vol- leyball, mini golf, karaoke night and more! PLANS IN PLACE TO BRING A BROTHER BACK Academically, Kansas Beta finished spring se- mester with a 3.109 GPA. We've set a goal to be back to the top-five fraternities in GPAs. To make this happen, we are developing new pro- grams and supplementing resources to make sure every brother has what he needs to be suc- cessful. Peter Boos '20, VP of RLC, is working on the application to get our Chapter's RLC ac- creditation back. A new program, called Bring a Brother Back, offers brothers who had to leave the Chapter due to low grades the opportunity to rejoin. Those interested must show strong improvements in academics, active campus in- volvement, community service, and more. I be- lieve every brother deserves a second chance. ALUMNI MENTOR PROGRAM SIGN-UP We are currently working to create a program to connect current members of SigEp with alumni who are professionals in their respective field of study. Our hope is to arrange undergraduates the opportunity to learn from a SigEp in their fu- ture industry and acquire valuable advice. This mentorship program offers alumni an excellent opportunity to connect to their home at SigEp! Stay tuned for more details and feel free to reach out to me with any suggestions or if you would like to participate. UNDERGRADUATES BEGIN ANOTHER PROMISING YEAR ALUMNI VOLUNTEERS We are also still currently looking for alum- ni volunteers for our Alumni Board! After our 100th anniversary, we are looking to continue to improve our alumni relations and alumni in- volvement. If you are interested or looking for ways to get back involved in SigEp, we'd love to give you more information! Please contact me at mjkuhn@ksu.edu or (785) 201-2694.
