Sigma Phi EPSilon PAGE 2 J onathon "JB" Mason '13 recognizes how incredibly challenging it can be to make the right choices in life. Whether it was choosing to study instead or partying or opting for a healthier dinner rather than a pizza, JB focused on making some of those right choices as an undergradu- ate at Kansas State. JB thanks SigEp for the structure that ushered him into making the right choices. "SigEp transformed me in to a Balanced Man." As an undergraduate, JB served as the vice president of recruitment, learning valuable lessons along the way. He focused on the "Sound Mind, Sound Body" mantra where members are called on to study hard, eat healthy, and make time for physical activity. "During my freshman year I earned good grades and led an active social life, but I did not lead a healthy lifestyle." Mentors encouraged JB to adjust his eating habits and physical activities— guaranteeing him more energy and mental clarity. He spent the summer com- mitted to living a healthy lifestyle, with a weightlifting routine and eating clean. "The results were incredible and when I returned for my sophomore year I felt great and was more productive." During his junior year, JB became aware of a great career path with the opportunity to travel around the world. JB networked to receive referrals in Kansas City, began building connections, and began preparing for an interview with Deloitte Consulting. After being turned down for an intern- ship, he was encouraged to find experience elsewhere that could lead to an opportunity at Deloitte in the future. JB dove into his studies, focused on on-campus involvement, and locked down a prestigious internship with Tortoise Capital Advisors. Upon returning to campus, JB reapplied for a position at Deloitte and following a smooth interview, he was offered a full-time position as a management consultant! "I put myself in a position to receive my dream job by building a strong resume, preparing for inter- views, and networking with my peers, teachers, and potential employers. After working for Deloitte Consulting for a few years, JB decided to look for new opportunities with technology start-ups. He found a position with DoorDash in Austin, Texas. Determined to make this career move, he used the networking skills he learned, took the time to send a personal mes- sage to the recruiters via LinkedIn, researched interview questions, and prepared multiple answers for each question. He ultimately received an offer and moved from Kansas City to Austin, where he has resided for the past year. In Austin, JB takes advantage of the local social scene, attending concerts, enjoying the lake, and playing tennis. He maintains relationships with his good friends Tom Greer '12, Drew McCart '11, and Jerrod Reddrick '13. He connects with quite a few of his brothers through social media, text, phone calls, and weekend trips. JB continues to place emphasis on his health and his mind, by ruthlessly prioritizing his schedule, being dis- ciplined, and keeping his goals at the top of mind. His dedication to living a Balanced Man lifestyle established a foundation that has positioned him well in all aspects of his life. The Balanced Man Program Set Jonathon "JB" Mason '14 Up for Success "Kansas Beta helped me transition from an immature 18 year old to a college graduate with a plan for life. I would not have developed the work ethic and self-confidence I have now if it wasn't for my friends and mentors at the Fraternity." State Hospitality Management Program. Ronda has two college-aged daughters and is a great asset to the Chapter because she understands this age group. She brings professionalism, organization, and the ability to positively manage the young men who work in the kitchen with her. We have very good food and I am proud to say one of the best foodservice operations within the Kansas State Greek commu- nity. The men receive large portions of fresh food with much of it prepared from scratch. The food service operation is a very positive aspect of our Chapter operation. Chapter President Max Kuhn '19, a fifth-year senior, has placed emphasis on Wednesday night formal meal service with guest speakers from campus and the community. The first Wednesday meal featured a dining etiquette presentation. The men appreciated getting to learn dining basics and asked many questions about dining protocol. Other speakers will include: a representative from the Riley County Police Department, a financial adviser, campus legal attorney, a stu- dent services and career and employment coordinator, among others. I hope this gives our alumni an idea of what the Chapter is doing and provides a snapshot of activities. Please consider stopping by the Chapter House if you are in Manhattan. It is always fun for the men to visit with alumni and to hear stories of their experiences. Fraternally, Pat Pesci '91 CHAPTER HOUSE STAFF UPDATE (Continued from page 1)
