I always loved recruitment! Spending quality time with your besties without concern for homework, papers and exams was terrific. Recruitment was a busy time when we participated in team building and sisterly collaboration for a definite bonding experience. Even going through as a naïve freshman was fun, and what a wonderful end to a whirlwind week: I became a ΔΓ! After checking in with the chapter, I was told that I could spend the night. Oh, by the way, you'll be staying at the Annex. Wait… what? The Annex…. Crossing the street for breakfast? Only on doughnut days. Changing rooms? It was not too painful unless you had to move across the street. There were dresser drawers that were interchangeable in the house but did not fit the furniture in the Annex. Getting together with someone who lived over there? Not so convenient. The Annex definitely wasn't something that was a hot topic during recruitment conversations. Having all live-in members under one roof— and a beautiful, no-leak one at that—was of prime importance when the remodel/rebuild was in the planning stages. Having space large enough for meetings and other group functions was something that the house corporation had on its to-do list. (Not to mention updated computer wiring, HVAC that was efficient and reliable, plumbing that worked and a state-of-the-art kitchen. Did I mention no mold?) All this and MORE has been accomplished. Historical tidbits and repurposed items are tastefully placed throughout the house. If you have not visited, be sure to make a pilgrimage to see firsthand what pictures cannot convey. I hope those of you who were supportive of this effort are pleased with and proud of the results, and we thank you wholeheartedly. I remember the "grand old lady" in my recruitment memories. As I drive south on Providence, I still expect to see it that way. When I round the bend, however, my breath is taken away by the gorgeous structure where new recruitment memories are being made. Great job, everyone!
