MU MESSENGER Fall 2018 Volume 9 Debbie Seebold Evans, Editor A s we go into the final years of our pledges for the Mu chapter housing campaign, I cannot go without thanking all of the 414 Delta Gammas, family members and friends for your generosity and gifts in honor/memory of others. We raised $1,553,439.87 to make this dream of a new home a reality for our collegians and alumnae! Along with that, we are thankful for the hardworking Delta Gamma house corporation members, construction committee members, design committee members, and chapter members. For Marcia Hunsinger Werremeyer '67 and me, we are so thankful for the women on our campaign committee who worked diligently to reach out to all the women in our chapter to help with this project. Our amazing new home would have never been completed without the hard work and dedication of many committed women! (And it isn't too late if you still want to donate to this campaign.) Having pledged Mu chapter, we learned to give back and it always gives us a feeling of pride because we are from Mu chapter. We belong, for life, to an extraordinary organization—Delta Gamma Fraternity. When something is needed, Mu chapter women step up. I try to teach the women that I mentor to always say "yes" when asked. Whatever the position, whenever or where ever you are needed, there is always something you can do to further our progress as a chapter or as a Fraternity. So thank you for the past, present and future of Mu chapter as one of our members! As always, Mu chapter women are remarkable! My thanks and admiration, Debbie Seebold Evans '71 Campaign Co-chairman A Pledge to Remember FROM THEN TO NOW T he Mu house corporation received one of the best compliments it could get this summer, which is a credit to the care the collegians and staff have put into our new home. When Little Dixie Construction, our builders, came to address the one-year punch list items they were quite impressed with the state of the house! It demonstrated the commitment of the design team that selected durable yet comfortably classic items and the collegians' personal ownership and pride in the tradition of Delta Gamma. It is such a tribute to the investment we all made and continue to make. Three new members joined the board this year. Jean Brown Snider '66 took the demanding role of treasurer, and our local Columbia presence is enhanced by the additions of Mimi Long Abbet '74 and Paige Harper '07. The new ATC, Erin Doty Toohey, Alpha Epsilon, has also joined the board. Having new voices keeps the energy high! To further improve all house corporations, the Fraternity held a new officer training this fall, which Jean and I attended. The program included one speaker who focused on the incoming student body's view on Greek life and house expectations, plus a second speaker from MJ Insurance who talked on risk management specific to Delta Gamma. Other activities included informative break-out sessions where women shared experiences and concerns in their own house corporations. The takeaway was a strong belief in continued education and training to keep our house corporation ready for the challenges of the future.
