Ross, a 2001 Corning High S c h o o l graduate, joined the Navy N u c l e a r Program in September of 2001. Upon completion of the program, he was accepted to the US Naval Academy. Ross graduated from the academy with distinction in the top three percent of his class. From there, he attended flight school in Florida and Oklahoma. He received his wings Feb. 12, 2010, and chose to fly the Navy's MH 60 Romeo, the most technically advanced helicopter in the world today; a multi-mission, anti-sub, anti surface warfare aircraft. Ross has been stationed at North Island, San Diego, for the past three years training with the Navy's HSM 77 Squadron. He was deployed with the 5th Fleet and its presence in the Gulf of Omar for nine months during that time. This month, his squadron moved to Atsugi, Japan. Ross will be stationed at Atsugi for the next year and a half. While there, they will join the Navy's 7th Fleet and help protect America's interest abroad. Cook onion and green pepper in oil in large frying pan until onion is transparent. Add ground beef and brown lightly. Pour off drippings. Soak bread in milk. Add eggs, apple, apricots, curry powder, salt and pepper to beef. Add bread and milk. Mix well. Place in a 2-quart oven - proof casserole; bake in a moderate oven (350 degrees) for 45 minutes. Serve with curry condiments such as chutney, raisins, shredded coconut and sunflower seeds. 8 to 10 servings. Beef Ambassador candidates sought Tehama County CattleWomen are looking for beef spokespersons for 2013. Both a senior and a junior Beef Ambassador will be selected at the Tehama County CattleWomen's sixteenth annual Beef Ambassador contest which will be staged Feb. 23 at the Tehama County Farm Bureau meeting room. Scholarships will be awarded to the winners of the contest, with the senior ambassador receiving a $1,000 scholarship and the junior ambassador earning $500. The scholarships will be given at the end of the ambassadors' year. The winners will be the youth spokespersons for the beef industry throughout the coming year. All youth, both male and female, are encouraged to participate in the Beef Ambassador contest. Contestants do not need an agriculture background to enter the contest. Senior Beef Ambassador contestants must be 17 years of age but not over the age of 20 by Sept. 1. The Junior Beef Ambassador must be 12 years of age, but not over the age of 16 on the same date. The ambassadors will receive training to represent the beef industry. They will address issues about the cattle business in schools, workplaces, and in the community. An informational meeting for contestants will be held February 7 at the Farm Credit office. The deadline for entering the contest is Feb. 4. Application forms are available at the 4-H office, 1754 Walnut Street in Red Bluff, from county high school FFA advisors or by contacting co-chairmen, Carrie Rohr at 527-7272 or Lynsie Birt at 597-2667. They will have a personal interview, a media interview, do a consumer presentation about promoting beef products and answer questions from the audience. County winners will advance to the California Beef Ambassador Competition to be held April 27 in Chico. Bailey Brownfield is the current Senior Beef Ambassador and Junior Beef Ambassador is Taylor Collins. The 2012 ambassadors represented the beef industry at schools throughout the county, at Farm and Educational Days and other CattleWomen and Cattlemen functions. Tehama Fair To Be Held October 1-7 The next annual fair of the Tehama County Fair Association is to be held at Red Bluff October 1 to 7, both inclusive. This was the date decided on at a meeting in Sacramento last week of the Western Fair Association. The state fair this year will be held September 1 to 19; the Colusa fair September 12-16 and the Glenn county fair September 19-22. — Jan. 23, 1923 progress report from school. Then, two brown belt test are required before a black belt test with each score rising five percent for each belt level with at least a ninety percent score and eighty percent attendance but in all cases a student must be a member for at least three years before becoming eligible for consideration for the black belt test. Community service hours and teaching experience are also required before becoming eligible to take either a written or oral black belt test before the technique exam.
