3 FOCUSING ON COMMUNITY SERVICE Girl Scouts Program G irl Scouts of the USA is one of our most hands-on philanthropies that helps us inspire action in young girls. Each semester, a group of five women receive the opportunity to serve as role models to these young girls. By attending Girl Scout meetings, we establish confidence in them and build lasting and valued relationships. We began our spring semester with a field trip for the Girl Scouts to the Alabama gymnastics Pink Meet. This event allowed nearly 30 Kappa Deltas to walk with the troop to the meet. When the gymnastics meet concluded, the Girl Scouts were able to attend the press conference and meet multiple Alabama gymnasts. It was such an inspiring event to see how these young girls look up to our members. ENCOURAGING THE YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR One of our favorite events we put on at Kappa Delta is when the Girl Scouts come to the Chapter House to sell cookies. ΚΔ members take shifts alongside the troop. The whole campus is invited and they usually sell out within the first couple hours. By bringing the girls to ΚΔ, they interact with all the women in our Chapter. ΚΔ SUPPORTS WOMEN IN SCIENCE We also participated in the Women in Stem Day. The Girl Scouts came to campus and visited different educational stations about math or science problems with a hands-on craft to expand their knowledge. This day was not only for our local troop we normally work with, but all other troops in the area. MEMBERS HOST CAREER DAY FOR YOUNG LEADERS ΚΔ hosted a career day where troop members came to listen to our members discuss all organizations on and off campus they are involved in. This event allows the Girl Scouts to formulate an idea of what they want to accomplish after college and helps our members open up about their hopes and dreams as well. This semester, we are working on scheduling another field trip so the troop can come to a UA volleyball home game and meet the players and coaches. We will still attend all of their meetings and help build their confidence by building strong relationships. Love in AOT, Annalisa Stone '17, Girl Scout Chairman A group of amazing Kappa Deltas had the privilege of hosting our local Girl Scout troop at the Alabama gymnastics Pink Meet. Kappa Delta hosted a few of the Girl Scouts from different troops at the Chapter House for a career day. Crossing Points Program C rossing Points is a local school for students with intellectual disabilities. Through this program, they have the opportunity to develop skills for independent living. Betty Shirley '49, a Tuscaloosa resident, and her husband George, an ΑΤΩ, created the Crossing Points Prom several years ago. The inspiration came from their grandson, Walt Gary, who was a student at Crossing Points. Following this tradition, ΑΤΩ and ΚΔ host a school prom for Crossing Points students each year, giving them a night that they will never forget. Over the years, members of ΚΔ have been given the special opportunity to serve as positive influences to these students who truly appreciate every aspect that goes into making this prom a success. In addition, we host events throughout the year such as ΚΔ dinners and a spa night to further build our relationships with Crossing Points. This year, we are hosting a barbecue with ΑΤΩ to honor and support the Crossing Points Program. We are encouraging each Crossing Points student to be a part of this event in hopes that these relationships will keep growing. We are extremely grateful for our relationship with this organization and look forward to planning new events with them each year. The women of ΚΔ truly enjoy building confidence in these young students and inspiring them to be their best self. Love in AOT, Logan Sessions '15, Crossing Points Chairman A group of ΚΔs gather with Crossing Points student, Brian.
