3 SIGMA CHI Undergraduates Serve the Community Planning of Alumni Events in Progress T his past spring, our philanthropy chair- men sought to pursue activities that would maximize the tangible impact within our own community. As a result, we started a new philanthropic tradition of helping out with serv- ing meals to the homeless at a local church. Merlin Olsen Strawberry Creek Clean-up Alpha Beta hosted an official Sigma Chi phil- anthropic event on September 23 involving the clean-up of Strawberry Creek inside UC-Berke- ley's main campus in honor of our significant Sig, Merlin Olsen. This involved the greater Greek community, as sororities sent members to participate in this clean-up as well. Alumni Barbecue We will host our San Francisco Bay Area alumni at the chapter house for the annual alumni bar- becue. It is a great time for actives to reconnect with alumni and build friendships, seek advice, and discuss professional development. The date of the barbecue is to be determined. Chapter Room Dedication There will be an official inauguration of Alpha Beta's chapter room as the Del Tacconi Chapter Room sometime this semester. The inaugura- tion will involve the hanging of a bronze plaque above the entrance of the chapter room in order to honor long-serving Chapter Advisor Del Tac- coni, Utah State '62, who provided his unself- ish and experienced guidance for more than 17 years.
