I n September 2017, 42 brothers representing classes from 1960 to 1970 and 30 wives attended a Saturday evening buffet dinner at Jakes on the Lake in Tahoe City. Some arrived just for the dinner, while others enjoyed as much as a week of the great fall weather, the incredible scenery and an extended opportunity to reminisce with fellow Sigs. Given the continued success of these reunions, we hope to have many more! A slide show of the weekend is available to watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjOXsbbUzMk&t=657s Although we may not look like we're in peak form today, included in this August group were 15 varsity lettermen in tennis, boxing, rugby, and football. Four of those brothers went on to play many years in the NFL. In attendance were doctors, attorneys, artists, CPAs, business owners, professors, and engineers. Included in the group are four Significant Sigs: Ed Crane '68, former chairman of the Libertarian Party and founder of the CATO Institute; Bill Powers '67, recently retired president of the University of Texas; Ed White '69, Cal and College Hall of Fame recipient and 17-year veteran of the NFL; and Congressman John Garamendi '66. Although I prefer to think of all these great guys as significant. Every one of us said that it seemed like just yesterday when we were living at 2345 College Ave. in Berkeley. Enjoy it while you can—you'll be looking like us sooner than you can imagine. However, even at our age, we are an amazingly active group with a lot to share. I'm 72, the president of the Tahoe Forest Hospital District, and a longtime ski instructor at Squaw Valley with no plans to retire. Many others in our group are similarly energetic and engaged. In Hoc, Dale Chamblin '67 Rick Hubbell '70, Mike McCaffrey '69, and Hal Bobrow '70 enjoy the beauty of Lake Tahoe with their wives.
