Our Competition THE FUTURE OF 204 SORORITY CIRCLE While the Kappa Delta experience is certainly more than the physical structure of the chapter house, our home undoubtedly plays a significant role in the development of our sisters and serves as a proud symbol of our shared values and goals. Built in the late 1920s, 204 Sorority Circle has been a part of Kappa Delta's legacy for almost 100 years and is showing its age. It has become clear that we must make a major investment in our chapter house if we are to remain competitive, provide a quality living environment, and meet the needs of our sisters today. UNPRECEDENTED GROWTH IN GREEK MEMBERSHIP Kappa Delta, like most sororities at the University of Mississippi, has experienced tremendous growth in chapter size. Alpha Mu currently has more than 400 active members. While this growth is welcomed and appreciated, it does present some difficulties with the current facility. The entire chapter is no longer able to fit in the chapter room and the chapter can no longer have all-chapter dinners due to lack of space. With most members not living in the Alpha Mu chapter house, the need for more common space is critical. Our facility does not have the appropriate amount of study and living space to make all sisters feel welcome and at home. SORORITY HOUSING COMPETITION AT ALL-TIME HIGH While Kappa Delta continues to attract some of the top women, we know that we are losing quality potential members to other sororities that offer better facilities. Six of the other 10 sororities at the University of Mississippi have responded to growing chapter size and increased competition within the Greek community by investing in substantial upgrades or rebuilding their facilities within the last five years. We also compete with the amenities offered in new and renovated on- campus residence halls and off-campus apartments. Over the past few years, Ole Miss has renovated and rebuilt several dormitories on campus. These new dorms provide state-of-the-art living and learning spaces with increased social and study space, as well as increased privacy in individual rooms. Newly constructed off-campus apartments offer hotel- style amenities, including fitness centers, luxury pools, game rooms, and more. For Kappa Delta to remain a premier sorority at Ole Miss, we must renovate and expand our facility to attract the quality of women we pride ourselves on.
