KAPPA DELTA AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI

ProjectHighlights
T
he Alpha Mu alumnae and undergraduate leadership have developed a
solid plan to address the long-term viability of the Kappa Delta experience
on the University of Mississippi's campus. Through careful study, assessment, and
planning, it has been determined that new construction is the best option for the
house, as the sorority must invest in our home to meet the needs of today's students.
We retained the services of a structural engineer who found the current house has
structural issues due to the number of additions/renovations, along with excessive
moisture under the house. It was his opinion that renovations would cost the same
as new construction and the chapter might still experience some of the current
challenges that they are facing again. Working with architects at Pryor Morrow,
the Alpha Mu House Corporation has developed a tactical approach to our future.
With new construction comes exciting upgrades to the
chapter house that will be beneficial for the longevity and
success of the home. These updates include:
A chapter room large enough to hold all members for
meetings and sisterhood events, as well as a multipurpose
space for other activities—245% increase in size.
Increasing the living capacity from 63 beds to 98 beds to
provide more chapter members the opportunity to have
a live-in experience.
Additional bathrooms to accommodate the increased
number of live-in members.
Expanding the dining room space to provide an eating
area for all chapter members to spend meals together—
over a 200% increase in size.
The addition of a porch that can be used as an outdoor
dining space, as well as a place for members to do
homework, work on projects, and spend time together.
Providing ample kitchen space for food services to
provide meals for 400-plus members—over a 120%
increase in size.
