page 3 sigma phi epsilon F lorida Nu and FIU Greek life faced several obstacles in spring 2018, including the suspension of all Greek activities for the month of January and the tragic bridge collapse that made the entire FIU community come to a standstill. Through adversity some of the strongest bonds are created. Florida Nu was one of the first Greek organizations to be reinstated thanks to the hard work of our executive board and other involved members. Despite these challenges, our Chapter continues to strive for greatness and exemplifies this through our extensive policies and procedures to ensure quality men are being developed with our Balanced Man Program. With the largest local alumni base at the university, the Chapter has access to many mentors. We are not just any other fraternity, we are different, and we are proud of it. We maintain academic excellence by requiring a GPA higher than the requirement to rush a fraternity at FIU. Being the first fraternity on campus to utilize 365-day recruitment tactics, we have become an example for all organizations on campus that have also now adopted this method of recruitment. SigEp is committed to having an impact on the FIU community and has brothers in positions of influence on campus, such as Manuel Perez '19 (IFC president), Matthew Beck '20 (housing senator, SGA), and the brothers who make up over 60% of the IFC ambassador team. Although intramural sports were not held for Greek organizations this spring, due to the month-long pause, we continued to practice, formed our own team, and competed in the tournament finishing third. Recently Florida Nu organized an etiquette dinner hosted by Karen Katz in which the brothers learned basic but crucial behaviors for dining in a business setting. Hosting an event in partnership with a great organization such as Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) is an honor for us as we can seamlessly align our core values with theirs: mentorship, trust, and role modeling. Florida Nu hosted a sports day for BBBS in which the brothers played football, soccer, and tag with the kids at the intramural fields. The brothers then hosted a popcorn and pizza party for them as they watched a movie. SigEp FL Nu upholds our values by leading by example and living our ritual day in and day out, demonstrating how different we are as fraternity men. It's great to be a SigEp!
