In 2011, he received a master's degree in public
administration. He has worked in Washington,
D.C., for a political consulting firm and back to
Florida serving as Miami-Dade County Mayor
Carlos Gimenez's communication director and
senior advisor. Mike returned to the private
sector and is now senior vice president of
Mercury Public Affairs, a bipartisan, global
public strategy firm.
Dave earned a B.S. in electrical engineering and
spent 12 years working for large corporations.
He now owns and operates DCH Engineering
in Ohio. He says, "Florida Nu instilled the
importance of leading a balanced life, which
has kept me focused and unwavering as I have
built my career."
Today the Hernandez brothers are truly living
according to the SigEp creed by generously
contributing to the Building Our Future,
Securing Our Legacy campaign. "SigEp
invested in me," says Mike. "I owe the Chapter.
This is one way to give back." Dave believes
"it is our responsibility as leaders to lead the
next generation of balanced men."
Making a commitment to Florida Nu honors
the support system and friendships SigEp
provided at a time that Mike, and later Dave,
needed them most. The same members that
encouraged Mike to stay in school are still his
best friends. "We have walked in each other's
weddings and are raising our children in the
same community. Without Florida Nu, I would
not be where I am today."
While Dave no longer lives in Florida, he
keeps up with the Chapter via the newsletters
and thinks the undergraduates are headed in
the right direction. He encourages alumni to
remember "where you came from. You have
to throw it back over the wall." Both brothers
strongly adhere to the sentiment "if a brother
has fallen, may it be a brother who first comes
to his aid." Mike says, "Brothers have come to
my aid. I will do the same for them."
Mike lives in Pembroke Pines with wife Christine
and children Brian and Alyssa, and they take
frequent trips to Disney World ("thank God
for annual passes!"). He can be reached at
michael.hernandez9282@gmail.com.
Dave lives in Cincinnati with his wife, Natalie.
When not working, he does CrossFit and
powerlifting. He can be contacted at dave@
dch-pe.com.
