Wilbert Awdry and his son, Christopher. Based on the tank engine, the series of books started in 1946. Today, Thomas is one of every childs favorites. On Saturday, Dec. 9th at Shelby City Park, a special reading took place inside the Mickey Shull Izzie Train Depot, with participation from the Cleveland County Memorial Library and Partnership For Children. Volunteer Kevin Kollock (pictured) read the book and got all the kids to vocally participate. Kevin was very graphic and did a magnificent job. After the reading and a group picture, it was time for a free train ride for everyone who brought some can goods. The canned goods will be given to the Salvation Army. Over 100 kids got to experience the special train ride. M. A.
