BETA BEAT Sigma Alpha Epsilon s University of montana Spring 2018 THE In this issue: Thank You, Loyal Alumni - p.2 Settling into Spring - p.3 Chapter Officers - p.3 50/50 Campaign Kicks Off with $8,980 Contributed Broader Support Needed to Reach $90,000 Goal L ast fall, we announced the 50/50 Campaign in honor of Montana Beta's 90th anniversary. With the support of our generous alumni, we raised a total of $8,980 toward the first phase of our Montana Beta 50/50 Campaign Challenge. Our ultimate goal is $90,000 and we began our second phase of the campaign on March 9 at Founder's Day. We could not be more thankful for the support we've received thus far—you are truly making a difference in the future of Montana Beta. In this campaign, each dollar contributed will be split 50/50 between a tax- deductible scholarship endowment and current, non-tax-deductible funds that will be used to upgrade the chapter house. The tax-deductible amount will go into a Montana Beta Chapter Education Fund, an endowed scholarship fund with the SAE Foundation. Those funds can be used by our undergraduates to attend SAE Leadership School or other educational conferences held by the fraternity. The non-deductible portion can used to support the maintenance of the chapter house. To refresh your memory, there are two ways to give back to 50/50: Donate Online https://www.givecampus.com/schools/ SigmaAlphaEpsilon/montana-beta-50-50- campaign#donations Mail Your Gift Send your check to Montana Beta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, P.O. All the donations to the 50/50 Campaign qualify toward each individual's giving levels to the SAE Foundation. In other words, if you give $1,000 you qualify as a Founder member. As the campaign continues, we hope to see more and more alumni send their message of support and commitment to preserving the legacy of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at the University of Montana. "At the time, they were a small chapter, only 12 active members, and a new pledge class could double the membership. I want- ed to be part of something where I could make a difference. SAE gave me the chance to come in as a freshman and do just that." Scott jumped at the chance for leadership positions within Montana Beta, serving as pledge class president, pledge trainer, vice president, and Eminent Archon. However, his involvement didn't stop there, he was an ASUM student senator and vice president of the Interfraternity Council. Scott did all this while working two jobs. He worked for Cam- pus Recreation, supervising intramural sport leagues, refereeing games in the fall and win- ter, and umpiring softball in the spring. He also worked for the owner of My Place Bar for 3 1/2 years, running the mechanical bull, bartending, collecting cover charges at the front door, running special promotions for the bar, and helping with marketing. "With all this, I still graduated in four years! I enjoyed taking on leadership roles. I wasn't afraid of hard work. I couldn't waste time, I just had to get things done and done right."
