THE BETA BEAT PAGE 2 Despite all of his responsibility, Scott still found time to let loose and have fun, especially with his Montana Beta brothers. During a spring break trip with Jim Ledakis '81 and Dan McGuire '81, Scott found his SAE brotherhood stretched beyond uni- versity boarders. "We found out we could stay at SAE houses on other campuses as guests. It was a great way to save money and still travel. We ar- rived at the SAE house in Puget Sound and it was completely empty; we even checked the bedrooms and all the beds were stripped bare. We thought, oh no, maybe they were shut down! As we were walking out of the house, a guy ran up and asked who we were. Once we answered he said there was a toga party two blocks away and all you needed was a sheet to get in free. Immediately Jim, Dan, and I said, "Where do we find a sheet?" The brother helped us find some in the house and off to the party we went. It was a great time! Jim and Dan are still some of my best friends and visit me every year." Scott also formed a close friendship with his SAE big brother Ed Fisher '82. "Everybody called him 'Big Eddy.' He was a big man but a huge teddy bear. He was the house warden, assigning the clean- ing chores to all the members. He is still my big brother today!" After graduation, Scott put his recreation manage- ment degree to good use. He managed an athletic club, supervising 60 people, and over the summers headed to Vail, Colorado, to help start a high-end white water rafting company at Beaver Creek. The company, Nova Guides, is now one of the largest guiding companies in the state of Colorado. Origi- nally from Arizona, Scott headed home to start his own company, Arizona Health LLC, in 1985, with his new bride, Janet. "She was the Alpha Phi chap- ter president and their house was across the street at UofM." Scott's compay sells exercise equipment and spe- cializes in private training for professional ath- letes. "I worked with male athletes from the NFL, NBA, MLB, and the PGA TOUR. I also trained fe- male athletes for the Olympics and several women in the motion picture industry. A few years later corporate fitness became real dominate for men, women, and families." Arizona Health is still successful 33 years later, but Scott has taken a step back from training. He was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis four years ago and while the strain it puts on his body is severe, it hasn't damped his spirit. "My moto for life is 'Grin to Win!' I make the best of every day God has given me!" Scott credits his success in life to the skills he learned at Montana Beta. "My brothers taught me networking, teambuilding, and so much more. I'm still in touch with about 20 of my brothers and they are a blessing to me. Phi Alpha!" Scott can be reached via email at grintowin@aol.com. King '85 Richard Thompson, advisor for Beta Delta chapter of Sigma Chi T hrough the generosity of our alumni and friends of Montana Beta, $8,980 was contributed since fall 2017 in support of our 50/50 Campaign and our Annual Campaign. Donors are listed below in order by their graduation year. If an error has been made in recording your gift, or your name has been mistakenly omitted or listed improperly, we sincerely apologize. Please advise our campaign coordinator at (785) 843-1661 so that we may make a correction. T o make sure we continue to thrive on the University of Montana campus, we have a need for volunteers to work with our chapter. We are looking for SAE alumni, from any chapter, who would like to participate as advisors to our undergraduates on an ongoing basis. The amount of time you spend is up to you, and I guarantee that it will be rewarding. We currently have several alumni in Missoula working with the chapter, but they need help. One of the keys in ensuring a fraternity doesn't get itself in trouble is to have strong alumni support, which Montana Beta has had over the last many years. However, for this to continue we need additional alumni to step up. We are not asking you for money, but something even more important to these young men—your involvement. To be very specific, we need three members for our House Corporation, two people to work with our current Chapter Advisor, and two to three alumni to work with our Alumni Association, with the idea of making it an active area Alumni Association. If you want to have a most rewarding experience, please give me a call. I am happy to answer any questions you may have.
