1952 to Today – e Pike house at Texas remains a fixture in undergraduate and alumni life. Defining the Future of the Pike House W hile the Beta Mu experience certainly involves more than the bricks and mortar of the chapter house, our home un- doubtedly plays a significant role as a living and learning center and as a proud symbol of our shared values and goals. Built in 1952, the Pike house at Texas has served as the college home for our undergraduate brothers while allowing for a place for thou- sands of alumni to return to when visiting Austin. As Beta Mu's 100- year anniversary at Texas approaches in 2020, we must turn our atten- tion to what the future holds and how we will continue to provide a modern, safe and competitive home for our fraternity. It was because of the brothers who came before us that we had the opportunity to live, learn and thrive at 2400 Leon Street; now the question becomes: what will we provide for the next generation? The Beta Mu Objective • We must provide a modern home for our undergraduate brothers. • We must set the standard for fraternity housing and attract the top student leaders who will move our fraternity forward. • We must be our brother's keeper and invest in the safety of future members and guests. MODERN – At over 60 years old, the house has begun to show its age. From increased annual maintenance to spaces that are not de- signed to support today's college student, a fraternity house for the 21st century is needed to continue to lead Pike into the next 100 years. COMPETITIVE – Since the early 2000s, other fraternities have made major investments in their facilities, including the Delts, Fiji ($6 million renovation/new construction in 2014), Kappa Sig ($4 million raised for a 2016 new build), SAE, SigEp and Phi Psi (completed over $8 million new build in 2017). Since completing their projects, these organizations have had more active alumni groups and, importantly, are now able to attract some of the best and brightest UT has to offer. In order to compete, we must not only meet this standard, but exceed what currently is being offered in Austin. SAFE – With its age, the Beta Mu house is plagued with wiring, plumbing and safety features that are out of date. Central to this are fire sprinklers, fire-rated doors and a need to be fully compli- ant with building code. Our undergraduate brothers' safety is our key concern. "I am supporting the campaign because the one thing we all thought was needed was a new house. Now I can help fulfill those dreams by paying it forward through future members." – John Scofield '75 Phi Psi: $8M goal to build new house; construction completed 2017. Kappa Sigma: $4M raised for state-of-the-art house; construction completed fall 2016. Fiji: Nearly $6M raised to renovate facility and build new annex in 2014. Competition 3 www.texaspike.com
