SIGMA PHI EPSILON 5 Alpha Artery Welcome, Spring 2018 New Members Ethan Gonzales Stillwater, Okla. Payton McFadden Highlands Ranch, Colo. Ryan Ramming Hinton, Okla. W hile the chapter achieved great success in fall 2017, the spring semester is already off to a great start. We welcomed three new members into the brotherhood and have contin- ued expanding our brother mentor program. This program emphasizes a member's four-year de- velopment within the chapter. From recruitment to academics to winning first place in intramural soccer, Oklahoma Alpha continues to shine as a leader in the Greek community. Chapter Places in Top Three for Academics Oklahoma Alpha achieved the third-highest GPA among the 22 IFC fraternities last fall, tying our all-time chapter high 3.36 GPA from spring 2017. Over the past five fall semesters, our chapter av- erage was a 3.12 and the highest we placed was eighth. All previous fall GPA milestones were blown out of the water last semester. We credit our recent academic success to an academic men- tor program, which pairs each new member with an older member of the same major. This pro- vides new members with both resources and ac- countability. Academic success will continue to be a focal point for our undergraduate members at Oklahoma Alpha as we strive to raise the bar. Oklahoma Alpha Wins IFC Philanthropic Excellence Award We won the IFC Philanthropic Excellence award for our work with the Red Cross and Hurricane Harvey relief. Immediately following the de- struction caused by Hurricane Harvey last fall, Oklahoma Alpha partnered with the Red Cross to collect over $4,100. These donations, along with a $2,000 chapter donation, were provided to help those in need in the Houston area. Through our brothers and their families, we had a close look at the tragedy caused by the hurricane and responded accordingly. Brothers Hosted 2018 Carlson Leadership Academy Oklahoma Alpha was selected to host the 2018 Carlson Leadership Academy in Oklahoma City this year. With 24 undergraduate attendees, we had the largest attendance at the conference. We were honored to be recognized for our achieve- ments as an RLC chapter and to win an Excel- sior Award for our advancements in the area of recruitment. We are grateful to the SigEp parents club and our alumni volunteer corporation for sponsoring six members to attend this spring's 2018 Carlson Leadership Academy! Chapter Wins Multiple Awards for Productions Our Freshman Follies cast worked hard this year and it paid off. They won the Viewer's Choice award, Most Entertaining Show award, Most Philanthropic Cast award, and Best Male Cheeser award with their production of Mr. Pop- per's Penguins. Sigma Phi Epsilon paired with the women of Kappa Delta to achieve third place in their Varsity Revue production, Center Stage. Despite not being able to build a house decora- tion as our new chapter house is under construc- tion, we paired with the women of Alpha Xi Delta and competed to the best of our ability. We won first place in both the float competition and harvest carnival. Oklahoma Alpha Remains a Campus Leader Our VP of Communications Brent Cunning- ham '20 was selected as a Top Ten Freshman. Vishnu Patel '19 is serving as the 2018 finance director for Cowboython, Oklahoma State's largest philanthropy. Brooks Robison '19 is serving as the 2018 president of the campus or- ganization, Enactus, which allows students to take entrepreneurial action to create sustainable solutions. Former VP of Membership Develop- ment Garrett Saunders '19 and current VP of Membership Development Matt Donavan '19 are currently serving as president and vice presi- dent of Student Mobilization (StuMo), a non-de- nominational Christian college campus ministry. Thank You, Alumni and Parents Oklahoma Alpha has been performing at our full potential. With continued excellence in academics, shows, philanthropy, recruitment, and leadership, it is a great time to be a mem- ber of our chapter. We are striving to keep this momentum going, and we are excited to dis- cover what a new chapter house will add to our undergraduate experience this fall. We sincerely thank you all for your support, and we would welcome a visit from each of you next time you find yourselves in Stillwater.
