SATURDAY • MARCH 24 • 8AM-2PM Kidney Association to benefit from bike and car show The Cleveland County Independent Bikers (CCIB) Fifth Annual Bike and Car Show and Hot Dog Cookout is scheduled for March 24, 2018, at Western Dynasty, 142 N. Main St. in Boiling Springs. All proceeds for the event will go to the Cleveland Rutherford Kidney Association (CRKA). The rain date for the event is March 31, 2018. "Our group (the CCIB) is just like a family," says Robert "Magic" Howard, a member of CCIB and an organizer of the car show. "We just got started doing this to raise money for the Kidney Association, and it has gotten bigger and bigger every year. Last year between the car show and other events that we held throughout the year, I think we raised around $14,000." Howard says that for the first time this year's car show will feature a corn hole tournament, which will begin at 1 p.m. Car and bike reg- istration will begin at noon, and the entry fee is $20. Prizes for bikes in the show will be awarded in custom touring, antique, custom, import, sportster, trike, soft tail, dyna and best of show. Prizes for cars in the show will be awarded in antique, hot rod, rat rod, custom, truck, import, new model, 4 x 4, pre-80's (most original), and best of show. A special kids-only car show will fea- ture prizes in diecast and model car cat- egories. Participants in this show must be under 14 years of age. Cooking for the hot dog cook-off will begin at 12 p.m., and judging will be held at 2 p.m. A plate with two hot dogs, chips and a drink will be available for $6. Vendors are welcome at the event for a fee of $25. "All of the money will go to a great cause, and we all get to come out and have a really good time," says Howard. Founded in 1980, the CRKA works to assist kidney patients in Cleveland and Rutherford counties with transportation to and from dialysis and doctor appoint- ments. The organization has a grocery closet and also helps pay for rent, utili- ties and medications for kidney patients. The CRKA does not receive any state or federal funds but relies on support from fundraisers and from donations from indi- viduals, businesses, churches and clubs like CCIB.
