O micron Chapter started the academic year on the right path. With improved organization, new strategic planning and budgeting decisions, and a focus on risk management, we had a smooth summer and we were very competitive with other fraternities on campus. Thank you to everyone who referred potential members and please continue to send us your recommendations. The 2017 pledge class is an impressive group of 47 men who were initiated in December. These members came from across the state and the country to earn degrees in business, engineering, liberal arts, plan II, and more. In one semester we have seen them establish a strong presence in the Greek community. We saw a positive outcome from our new member education experience, where our goal is to be informative, safe, and instill the values of the Omicron Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order. Academically, we continue to achieve great success with continual improvement. Our spring 2017 grades were the highest we've had in years—a strong GPA of 3.30. This surpasses the UT men's average of 3.22, the UT overall average of 3.26, and the IFC average of 3.28. We have climbed to rank seventh of the 24 fraternities on campus. Our fall calendar kept us busy. We enjoyed back to school parties, game day tailgates and watch parties, and our annual Margaritaville party. Members traveled to Dallas for the Red River Rivalry game vs. Oklahoma. Parents and Alumni Weekend was a party with an auction and tailgate. We raised $11,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The semester ended on a high note with the annual Christmas party, which took us three weeks to finish building and house preparations. We would love to see more alumni at events. Tailgates and watch parties are a great opportunity to come visit the chapter house and reminisce with old friends. Keep an eye out for emails with tailgate and other event details. Also, visit www.texaska.com to see what is happening with the chapter. I am excited to see where our chapter is going and be part of its bright future. Our members show exceptional dedication and I know we will continue to protect and grow Texas KA. The local and national fraternity climate will continue to change and face challenges, but thanks to our devoted student and alumni leadership, I believe our chapter will do an excellent job navigating the future. Thank you alumni for your support as we take the next step forward.
