"I think this campaign demonstrates to the undergraduates that we have confidence in their ability to make good decisions and to build the kind of chapter of which we can all be proud. Right now Omicron's future success is greatly diminished with the overhanging debt and outdated chapter house. I hope each alumnus will reflect back on his time as a member of Omicron and think about how it changed his college experience in ways that were meaningful. Let's give this generation of young men that kind of opportunity." JoHn DeLatour '78— WHy i gave "I met my best friends for life when I joined Omicron. I may not have known it then but those friendships have stood the test of time. Additionally, I've furthered my career by expanding contacts with Kappa Alpha members." John supports the campaign because he sees the importance of investing in the chapter and encourages others to do the same. "We owe it to the heritage of Omicron Kappa Alpha. It is important to support the future of KA and the sons of many of our brothers whose sons have pledged KA, especially those that pledged Omicron in the tough years of rebuilding our chapter." In order to be competitive, Omicron needs alumni support and contributing to the campaign will set the chapter up for future success. "Paying off the debt will put the past behind us so the renewed chapter will have a fresh start. We want to move forward together." The Right Next Step (Continued from page 2) F or Chris Juban '91, being part of Omicron impacted his life beyond college and taught him lessons he didn't learn in the classroom. "The most direct benefit I received from KA, other than making lifelong friends, was the opportunity to serve in a leadership role in a large organization. My time as a pledge trainer and as Number 1 was invaluable. Those types of opportunities are not readily available outside of the Greek system." Since graduating Chris has taken the leadership skills he learned as an undergraduate and applied them to his daily life. He supports the Honoring Our Legacy, Securing Our Future campaign in hopes that future generations will learn those same skills. "I believe I have a duty to support the organization so it can provide the same benefits to a new class of brothers." The proper housing environment is critical to the success and future of Omicron. Chris said the chapter house was great when he was there from 1990 to 1994, but since then it has seen lots of wear and tear. "At a minimum, Omicron needs a house that is updated to the current standard in terms of security and amenities. More importantly, UT fraternities are in the midst of an arms race when it comes to housing. Everyone knows potential members consider the condition of a fraternity's house when deciding whether to join and it can be the difference in winning or losing strong candidates for new members." Chris encourages all brothers to support the campaign. "For my class, and likely many others, Omicron chapter was the center of our lives while we were at UT. We took a lot out of the chapter and graduated better men than when we started. Everyone who was part of Omicron owes the chapter a great deal for the times we enjoyed, the lessons we learned, and for the relationships we made along the way."
