Omicron gave me access to a community and made my transition to life on a huge campus much more comfortable. I formed rich friendships that endure until this day. I met the woman to whom I have been married for 52 years. That would not have happened without the fraternity/ sorority connection provided by Omicron." Being part of the UT community was encouraged by older members of the chapter. "My friendships with Lowell Lebermann '58 and Dick Nelson '58 led to active involvement in student government and various campus organizations, including Silver Spurs and the Friars." For John, Omicron set him on the right path and he wants the opportunity to continue. "I think when fraternities such as KA focus on positive goals and behaviors, it plays an important role in helping young men transition to successful lives at UT Austin and beyond. Membership opens doors on campus and is a source of many lifelong friendships. I want to help other young men have the kind of positive, meaningful experience that I had through Omicron." A fresh start and paying off debt is the right next step. "Putting the debt being carried by the housing corporation behind us is an important part of turning the page and focusing on what lies ahead rather than being burdened by the difficult recent history." "I also see lifting this debt burden as a way of saying thank you to those alumni who carried the burden during the recent rough years. Also, an updated chapter house is essential to efforts to move KA in the direction of being one of the best fraternities on campus." The Right Next Step Why John Hartman '61 and John Delatour '78 Support the Campaign O micron Chapter has impacted men for generations—instilling the ideals of Kappa Alpha Order as a moral compass for modern gentlemen and preparing men for life beyond college. For brothers John Hartman '61 and John Delatour '78, the benefits of membership in Omicron have lasted long past graduation. They both recognize the impact Omicron has had on their lives and want future generations of Omicron members to have the same opportunities, which is why they support the Honoring Our Legacy, Securing Our Future campaign.
