LAKE AREA COMMUNITY
Village of Sunrise Beach
e Village of Sunrise Beach began as nothing
more than a general store built to accommodate
the residents of the Lake's Westside. Built along
Missouri Highway 5, about 15 miles north of
Camdenton, the Village of Sunrise Beach was
the brainchild of a Springfield, Missouri-based
development company.
Once homes and other amenities began to spring
up around the original general store in the early
1930s, the U.S. Postal Service took notice and
opened a post office on the site in 1932. However,
it wasn't until 1954 that the area was incorporated
as a traditional village governed by a Board of
Trustees.
Today, Sunrise Beach is a growing community that
stretches along either side of Highway 5 from the
Hurricane Deck Bridge to just a mile south of the
City of Laurie, Missouri.
A rapidly growing community, Sunrise Beach now
has sewer and water service and other amenities
through most of the town and is proving attractive
to a number of businesses and developers.
Although the village has a population of less than
500, it is nevertheless a hub of activity for residents
of the Lake's Westside.
One of the Lake Area's most popular shoreline bars
is located within its city limits as are a number
of other business including restaurants, a large
supermarket, boat dealers, banks, churches, and
many other amenities. Lying within the Camdenton
R-III School District, Sunrise Beach is the home
to one of the district's fastest growing and most
recently constructed elementary schools.
