The Loch Norman Pipe Band began the ceremonies at the observance and dedication of the Kings Mountain Patriots Memorial and Vietnam Wall. Come See Mr. & Mrs. Santa and More! Sponsored By Lattimore Historical Society fast, set for Tuesday, November 20th beginning at 7:30 am. It will be held in the Cleveland County Cooperative Extension auditorium in the County Offi ce Building, located at 130 S. Post Road in Shelby. Our program will spotlight local foods: • The breakfast meal, graciously spon- sored by Shelby Kiwanis Club, will be pre- pared on site from an assortment of local ingredients… farm-fresh eggs, grits, biscuits, honey, molasses, butter, country ham, pork sausage, bacon, livermush, sweet potatoes, and apple cider. • The educational program will include a presentation on the local foods movement that is sweeping the nation and the econom- ic, health, environmental and social benefi ts of eating locally. • Carolina Farm Credit will present its Excellence in Agriculture Award to a notable local farmer during the breakfast. • Cleveland County Farm Bureau will announce the winners of our student essay contest, who wrote on the theme, "Why We Should Eat Local Foods". History of Farm-City Week Since 1955, the National Farm-City Council has supported educa- tional programming to build interdependence between rural and urban citizens, and the President of the United Sates has annually proclaimed the week leading to and including Thanksgiving Day as National Farm- City® FARM-CITY® In recent years, the major focus of the programs and materials has been on consumer and classroom education. Student activity sheets, teacher packets, placemats and bookmarks are just a few of the materi- als the Council has created to support its mission. In the past year, thousands of materials were used in classrooms, at Week. You are cordially invited to attend the annual Farm-City Week Break- Hospice Helps With "SECU Supports The Troops" Project Farm-City banquets, at civic club meetings and in other venues. Farm- City activities are grassroots in nature. Communities across the nation hold Farm-City events ranging from banquets to tours to job exchanges. We work closely with Agriculture in the Classroom programs in educat- ing students and teachers about agriculture. The event is free, but limited to the fi rst 150 people who call (704) 482- 4365 to reserve their seats. Cleveland County recently joined with the State Employees Credit Union (SECU) to help collect items for their annual "Support the Troops" project. Boxes were placed through- out the Administration Building the entire month of October with a Wish List of items attached from SECU. Letters to the troops from Jefferson Elementary School's 1st grade were also included. Thank you to the staff of Hospice Cleveland County and the stu- dents at Jefferson Elementary for their support of our troops who are away from their home protecting our safety and freedom.
