Dogs have found placement throughout the Southeast and in approved homes and rescues from Florida to Maine. Many individuals work tirelessly behind the scenes to assist the Cleveland County Humane Society in its efforts to promote animal welfare. The bake sale offers the opportunity for the community to step up and support these efforts to help provide safe homes for many help- less creatures. Proceeds from the bake sale will aid in the rescue and placement of even more animals as well as the effort to prevent unwanted litters. The Cleveland County Humane Society's low-cost spay/neuter program has served 1403 dogs and cats since its inception in June, 2008. Another program operated through the Cleveland County Humane Society assists with the welfare of animals that are housed at Cleveland County's Animal Control Shelter. The Clifford Fund, founded in July, 2011, has been instrumental in providing relief for the suffering of sick and injured animals and in the treatment of illness in designated animals. The Clifford Fund has provided veterinary care for over 90 animals – including dogs, cats, goats and horses. In addition, the Fund purchased 20 kuranda dog beds for the kennels. The bake sale offers two ways to help in this tremen- dous effort. For those who want to contribute baked goods for the sale, any non-refrigerated baked items and sweets are needed; for others, a wallet and a sweet tooth are the only requirements. The sale is scheduled just in time to provide freshly baked items for the holiday table and to greet the season (and Santa) with a few goodies. All donated items may be delivered to Hope Animal Hospital, 1042 Sam Lattimore Road, Shelby, by Friday, Nov. 16, or may be brought directly to the Cleveland Mall Police Substation between 11:30am and 12:30pm Saturday.
