SIGMA ALPHA EPSILON PAGE 3 D ear esteemed alumni, we are happy to announce that we had a very successful 90th anniversary celebration during Homecoming this fall. What a wonderful opportunity for the undergraduate chapter members to meet many alumni from different generations. We would like to extend this opportunity for those who were not able to make it by inviting you to join us at Founders' Day, March 9, to celebrate the founding of our chapter. We will conduct a chapter meeting, open to alumni, followed by a dinner prepared by our wonderful chef Bill Buseman. RSVP by contacting Eminent Deputy Archon Jake Quaschnik '20 at (253) 886-3891. In addition to a fabulous Homecoming, we have had a great semester in other areas as well. We were able to recruit 17 new members to our chapter this fall and we could not be more excited about them. We have also become involved in the Montana Youth Football program, which has been our main philanthropy this fall. If you would like to keep in touch with us via social media, follow our new instagram account, @sae_montana_beta, where we have been posting snapshots of our progress throughout the year. "I wanted a foreign perspective on college culture and academia. Other than that, I wanted to try something new and travel." Were you able to choose where you wanted to go, and why Ireland, if that was the case? "Yes, I was able to choose. I chose Ireland because my family roots go back to Ireland, so its more of a personal connection than anything else. The fact that it is a largely English-speaking society also appealed to me because I knew it would be easier to integrate and make friends." What was your favorite part about living in Ireland? "The Irish people are welcoming, kind, and not only is their culture unique but they also have a distinctly positive outlook on life." What were some cultural differences you noticed, and how is school different across the pond? "I was surprised by how similar our cultures were and how they followed American media and arts, but what shocked me was the minute differences in basic social interactions." What are some similarities between Ireland and the U.S. in society? "The media and popular culture are definitely a lot alike. That would definitely be the biggest similarity." Did you find your studies there to be rewarding, and if so what was your favorite academic part? "Schooling was very different. The lectures were much more about understanding concepts, rather memorizing facts." What were you most happy to return to that you missed while studying abroad? "Honestly, I was sorry to come home to a certain degree; however, everything is cheaper in America, it seemed like, and I just missed the Missoula life. We are pretty lucky here." What some of the biggest lessons you learned while away? "Tough one. I would say, never assume anything about anyone. Every person you meet has their own crazy history that's just as crazy as yours."
