THE BETA BEAT PAGE 2 served as House Corporation President for 10 years. "Being a part of SAE taught me strategic planning, community relations, collaboration, and interpersonal relationship skills. Montana Beta was always organizing events and committed to helping the community." Doug has also stayed involved with SAE beyond Montana Beta, serving as Province Archon for Province Phi. He has also used his leadership skills in his current role as a principal at St. Thomas More Catholic Church and prior to that as a teacher for 21 years. Mentoring comes naturally to Doug and he encourages alumni to remember why they joined and the good times they had as members of Montana Beta. To undergraduates, he would love to have feedback or questions and he asks that they reach out to alumni. "Getting involved in community, service projects, organizing work in the community and stretching your experiences is the best use of your time in the chapter house." When Doug is not at the school, you can find him traveling with his wife, Christine. They also enjoy camping, snow skiing, and fishing. They spend family time with their children and new grandchild. Doug can be contacted via email at dougbanks@ thomasmorespokane.org. (Continued from page 1) Montana beta a Home Away from Home Left: John Greener '79 and UM President Sheila Stearns at the banquet. O n Homecoming weekend October 13-15, Montana Beta celebrated 90 continuous years on the University of Montana campus. Several activities were canceled because of the cool weather, but our Saturday morning pancake breakfast and parade watching event came off successfully as well as our Saturday night banquet and dance party. The pancake breakfast was an opportunity for us to honor many Little Sisters of Minerva in attendance. They included many of the original Little Sisters, as well as later members. Thanks to Dawn Pederson and Flo Smith for organizing their reunion. If you haven't joined us for our pancake breakfast, I would suggest you do so next year at Homecoming. It is always a good opportunity to see old friends. Many of the brothers and wives attended the Grizzly football game and then joined about 100 others at the Holiday Inn for the banquet. Larry Brown '54 came from Colorado and was the oldest brother to attend. He regaled many of the actives with stories from the past. At the banquet several brothers received awards, two of which were given to Chapter Advisor Scott Johnson '81 and Sigma Alpha Epsilon House Corporation President Jim Mountain '81. Scott and Jim were given the Ron Cole Alumni Fidelity Award for their steadfast devotion to the high ideals of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and our home at the University of Montana. Congratulations to Scott and Jim. Rob Quist and the Great Northern Band then took over and dancing and good conversation was enjoyed by all. Thanks go to John Greener '79 and all the work he did to pull this off.
