I n the spring quarter, the men of Alpha Sigma Phi participated in intramural softball and soccer. The season was a successful one for our softball team, with the brothers playing in the University of Washington's most competitive league. They went undefeated throughout the regular season, and rightfully earned the number one seed in the playoffs. After winning the first playoff game and advancing to the final four, our men lost to a stacked Sigma Phi Epsilon team. The softball team was led by senior clean-up hitter, Ben Schetterer '14, who ended the season with a .621 average while hitting six home runs and batting in 26 runs. Lead- off hitters, Chris Sibley '15 and Brian Setijono '15, contributed to the team's wins by attaining an on base percentage of over .600, which was due to their ability to put the ball on the ground and beat the throws to first with phenomenal speed. James Cook '16, who replaced an injured teammate mid-season, hit a grand slam in his first at-bat of the season, and stayed hot throughout the rest of the year, hitting an average over .500. Our team was further assisted by veteran Brian Minard '15, who scored 23 runs and hit for average, as well as hitting a couple of home runs. Undefeated Regular Season for Mu Softball By Cooper Nelson '17 Sports Chairman Soccer Team Wins Big Over Theta Delta Chi, Delta Tau Delta On top of the offense, starting pitcher Chris Sibley '15, was able to get some outstanding play from his defense. Cameron Hoover '14 was a vacuum at second base, fielding anything in his vicinity, while Ben Schetterer '14 also played a solid shortstop, using his arm strength to nab runners all over the diamond. The pitching staff was supported by an excellent outfield, including Ty Halvorsen '16, who ran great routes and limited the opposing teams to very few runs. With a lot of senior talent leaving the softball team next season, our returning players hope to find a new squad of freshman who enjoy playing and will help continue the success of past ΑΣΦ softball teams. Mu Chapter's spring soccer team had a great season themselves. The boys went four-to- two, with big wins over neighboring fraternities, including Theta Delta Chi and Delta Tau Delta. Our team was led by co-captains Cameron Vela '16 and Nickolas Rogerson '16. Cam totaled nine goals with 6 assists and Nick was able to put seven balls in the net while adding another five assists. Raffy Mestichella '17 served as goalie, and guarded the net with his lengthy wingspan. Kevin Ting '17 added a spark of his own, playing outstanding defense throughout the quarter. After a strong regular season, the soccer team, unfortunately, came up short in the quarterfinals of the playoffs. For the fall quarter of 2017-18 school year, the Mu house will par- ticipate in a competitive flag football league and a three-on-three soccer tournament. We hope to get a lot of our freshman members involved in the teams, and are excited for another great year of intramural sports. 14
