While not a member of Lambda Chi Alpha, he is honored in his role at the chapter facility and has plans to create procedures that will ensure the next house director has a more defined role. A former Marine, Josue served in a similar "resident director" position when he was in the military. Having done so, he knew he had the mental preparation for this particular position. Day-to-day as the Chi Zeta house director seems to vary, says Josue. "Due to the nuance of the building, I have no daily routine. Typical has not been part of my vocabulary since I started. However, I am constantly exchanging emails and meeting with the chapter officers for planning and advising." Josue's Marine experience taught him the importance of core values and how to live those values out. Lambda Chi's core values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage, reflect those of the services. "I would like to see the members of Lambda Chi Alpha internalize their values and see them transform into leaders," he says. "Part of my role is to incorporate Lambda Chi's values with all decision-making. e goal is to constantly think about their core values and to curve bad behavior." Josue has only been in this new position for a few months, however, he is already planning a project to ensure a smooth turnover for the next house director. "My biggest project is to create a standard operating procedure for my position, in order to have a successful turnover. I also plan to collaborate with the Illini Veteran's Club, especially since Lambda Chi Alpha's values are based off of the Army core values," he says. Since becoming the house director, Josue has made it his priority to remain visible in the chapter house and promote a safe environment conducive to student learning and academic success "My favorite experience so far has been watching the brothers interact with each other on a daily basis. A sense of nostalgia rushes over me when I see the camaraderie happen before my eyes." Josue foresees having a great semester with the men of Lambda Chi Alpha. He is studying accounting at the University of Illinois and can be reached at hjosue16@ yahoo.com.
