J eff Jenkins '99 was recently named the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of CKE Restaurants, the parent company of Carl's Jr. and Hardees. Jeff, who started out in biochemistry at UVA and ended up with a degree in theatre, has learned the ropes across numerous industries over the years. He started out doing branding for MTV where he found his passion for marketing. In addition to his impressive resume of past employers, including companies like Taco Bell and Whole Foods, Jeff credits much of his success to his time spent in Psi of Sigma Chi. His most beneficial takeaway from his Sigma Chi experience was learning to work together to overcome obstacles. "What it means to support each other, battle through obstacles, understand group dynamics, and get the most out of everyone," he says. After Jeff finished his undergraduate degree, he went on and earned his MBA at UCLA Anderson. After testing the waters with his first franchise, Taco Bell, he learned there is nothing like working in this industry. "I get to influence everything from product ideas, creation, development, and national launch," he says. Jeff said he has learned a lot from his experience in different industries which has allowed him to understand vastly different business models and consumers. He encourages undergraduates to "go out and see the world. Travel, live life, and find your passion." With his new role as a CMO of a large franchise restaurant, Jeff says he is excited and honored to be joining such a well-established organization where he will bring his 15 years of experience in digital and food service marketing. A theme of Jeff's career is to chart your own course by following your own passions. His experiences in Sigma Chi helped him develop those initial interests and discover who he really was. "It grounded me in being who I am by surrounding myself with people with different views leading to a better life," he says. Jeff encourages all his classmates to support the ongoing Psi Chapter Honoring Our Past, Building Our Future capital campaign. He can be reached at jeff.m.jenkins@gmail.com.
