CAMARADERIE INSPIRES GIVING BACK 1999 Pledge Class Reflects on Beta Chi Experiences L iving in the Beta Chi chapter house produces a bond that we all can relive when we come back to the University of Kentucky for a football game or even online when we reconnect with a sister over Facebook. Our sisterhood is built on strong friendships that begin during recruitment and strengthen while living together in 238 East Maxwell Street. "The smiling faces on the stairs during recruitment greeting me at the door welcomed me then, and those same faces continue to surround me now," Erin Reinshagen Woods '99 fondly recalls. Whether heading to the dining room for meals prepared by chef Kerry Sue or watching episodes of her favorite show with her roommates, Morgan Scoville Flinner '99 always had a support system with Beta Chi. Now serving as an undergraduate advisor, Morgan notes the importance of having a place to call home at a big university. "I see how much the chapter I advise lacks in community due to their lack of a home large enough to accommodate membership milestones like recruitment and chapter meetings." A strong sense of community at Beta Chi will flourish through membership commitment and the chapter house renovations. "Kappa has a wonderful legacy at the University of Kentucky! These renovations will allow Beta Chi to thrive so active and future sisters can have a great experience in a modern and enjoyable environment," notes Lauren Viola Dupere '99. Currently, planning meetings, recruitment, and even meals have become cumbersome due to the chapter house's size and growing membership. Lauren chose to donate to these renovations so bonding opportunities are available for present and future members. "I have a 4-year- old daughter and I'd love for her to go to the University of Kentucky and be a Beta Chi like both me and her aunt. I know many sisters who also have little ones and these future little Kappas should enjoy a beautifully renovated chapter house." Jennifer Exterkamp Hazzard '99 believes sorority life enhances college experiences and shrinks the campus. "I want women to have a place to be themselves, create memories, and feel connected just like I did as a Kappa." Erin lives in Union, Kentucky, and can be reached at erin.woods@kkg.org. Morgan remains active with Kappa Kappa Gamma as an advisor and lives in Bexley, Ohio. She can be reached at morganflinner@yahoo.com. Lauren is a marketing director for UNC Healthcare and lives in Wake Forest, North Carolina. She can be reached at lmdupere@gmail.com. Jennifer resides in Lexington, Kentucky, and can be reached at jhazzard21@gmail.com. "Kappa has a wonderful legacy at the University of Kentucky!
