Calling all 90's Alumni! We are forming an outreach committee and need your help! We want more brothers who graduated in the 1990's to attend our social events. If you graduated in that decade and are interested in giving us your opinion on events to interest you and your classmates, please contact Bob Carroll '88 at rcecarroll@aol.com to help him organize a 90s Alumni Social Committee. With five beers on tap, they plan to introduce new beers to the menu every couple months. The beers include Nickelville IPA (The town of Wylie used to be called Nickelville), Jackalope Stout, Slim Sweetness (a blonde ale with residual sweetness), and M'Rye, Ah (a rye pale ale). Our latest addition is O'Carroll's Irish Red. Three of the beers are named after our kids: Jackalope is named after their son, Jackson; Slim Sweetness is named for their daughter, Josie, who is tall and sweet; and M'Rye, Ah is named for their daughter, Mariah. Darin is still doing software while the brewery gets a foothold in the market, but he's already made plans to check out of the corporate life soon! If you want to learn more, check out their website at goodneighborbrews.com. Want to be featured, or know a brother who should be? Leave a Brother-to-Brother note in the Alumni section of gammaupsilon.org and you could be in the next edition of the Manifesto! Alumni Spotlight: Darin Petersen '93 (Continued from page 3) Saturday, June 3, the Gamma Upsilon Alumni Corporation sponsored its first Theta Chi Day at the Races at Arlington International Raceway in Arlington Park, Illinois. The afternoon featured nine races, including two stakes races and the Springfield Stakes. Alumni and families congregated on reserved, covered tables in the picnic area by the backstretch turn. The Gamma Upsilon Alumni Corporation paid for the tables while alumni brought or purchased their own food and drinks. Matt Nygren '99 won the "distance award" for making the trek from Madison, Wisconsin, for the event. Larry Santello '00 brought his wife, Annette, and two lovely daughters to the event, winning the "largest party" award, edging out Marty Deering '89, his wife, Debbie, and their son. Brother Nygren also brought his daughter, making it a true family event. The Santello ladies learned how to read a racing form, place bets (via a proxy, of course), and probably finished money ahead of most attendees. Mike Deering '85 earned the prize as the "most senior" brother present, edging out Bob Carroll '88. Junior brother present was Mitch Frondal '07. Also in attendance were brothers Jeff Gilleland '97 and Kevin Lange '01, both attending their first GUAC social event! Everyone had a great time and stayed through the final race, with several brothers sticking around for the post-race concert by The Boat Drunks, a Jimmy Buffet cover band, as June 3 was Beach Night at Arlington Park! First Theta Chi Day at the Races Finishes in the Money!
