Harry Wright '20 Monroe, Wash. ALUMNI UPDATE CHAPTER ETERNAL George A. Clemow '40 entered Chapter Eternal on June 16, 2016, at the age of 98. George attended MIT after graduating from MSU, but was called up from ROTC to the Army ahead of World War II, during which he designed weapons and ammunition for the Pentagon. In 1955, he joined General Radio, retiring after 28 years as manager of integrated circuit manufacturing to Moultonborough, N.H. George then volunteered for 26 years in the biomedical engineering department at Lakes Region General Hospital. The hospital honored him in 2013 with the Rhonda C. Ladd Award for his contributions to its health care system. Sherman G. "Sherm" Burke '50 entered Chapter Eternal as a resident of San Clemente, Calif. John W. McHugh '52 entered Chapter Eternal on December 13, 2015. Volunteering in the ROTC after graduating from MSU, he served in the Air Force as a lieutenant from 1952-54. John was elected to the Coeur d'Alene City Council, then as mayor from 1970-74. In 1995, John was appointed by Governor Phil Batt to the State Board of Transportation and served 12 years in that position. He was also re-elected to serve on the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee. George A. Zink '53 entered Chapter Eternal on November 29, 2016, as a resident of Yorktown, Va. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, and four children. Harold W. Hallesy '54 entered Chapter Eternal on December 17, 2016, as a resident of Normandy Park, Wash. Harold was raised in Montana and served five years in the Montana National Guard. He went on to have a successful career as an aircraft hydraulics specialist at North American Aviation in Los Angeles, Decoto Aircraft in Yakima, and Boeing in Renton. Harold was an original thinker and was awarded several patents. Martin W. Crennen '57 entered Chapter Eternal on March 18 as a resident of Helena, Mont. After graduating from high school in 1948, Marty enlisted in the Navy. He had signed on for three years; however, when the Korean War broke out, his tour of duty was extended for a year and his ship, the USS McCaffery, a destroyer, was on its way via the Atlantic, Mediterranean, Suez Canal, and Indian Ocean to patrol the Straits of Taiwan. Marty and his Sigma Chi brothers continued to gather annually at their elk hunting camp for over 40 years and also met together with their families every year at Big Sky for New Years. Marty remained a Life Loyal Sig all his life. John A. Gibbs Jr. '66 entered Chapter Eternal on March 5 as a resident of Sunbury, Ohio. Robert "Bob" D. Marta '66 entered Chapter Eternal on April 13 at his home after years of health issues. Bob worked in the Motion Picture industry as a camera operator and was the founding president of the Society of Operating Cameramen (S.O.C.). During his tenor at the S.O.C., Bob helped countless children through the Children's Hospital vision care of California. Bob was proud to be a member of the Masonic Bozeman lodge #18 and the Bagdad Shrine. He was honored to have helped thousands of children through the Spokane Shrine Children's Hospital. Richard "Dick" F. Cromer '67 entered Chapter Eternal on April 28 at the age of 72 following a lengthy illness. After graduating from MSU, Dick worked for the Montana Power Company in Havre as a town engineer. He continued his career with MPC in Anaconda and Butte, holding several jobs, including in the Planning and Contracts Departments and president of Continental Energy. In addition, he completed a three-month executive course at Harvard University. Dick was a Rotarian, serving on the planning board, the MSU Foundation board, and was a past president of the Butte YMCA. He was executive vice president of the Energy Supply Division when retired from Montana Power in 2000. Kenneth N. Brown '68 entered Chapter Eternal on October 12, 2015, after a two-year battle with cancer. After graduating from MSU with a civil engineering degree, Ken was employed for 30 years for the Public Works Department at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. After retiring from the company, he worked as a consulting engineer for Parametrix Inc. Ken also taught as an adjunct mathematics professor at Olympic College for 25 years. He was a member of Crossroads Neighborhood Church and served there as a deacon, usher, and past Governing Board member. Ken enjoyed cruising, cycling, reading, fishing, and hiking. His greatest accomplishments included summiting Mount Rainier and cruising around South America. Ken was a very generous supporter and lifelong member of Beta Rho Chapter, and he will be missed greatly by his fraternity brothers. (Continued on page 6)
