Spivey Recreation Center. And then there are the museums of downtown Fayetteville, including the Fayetteville Area Transportation and Local History Museum. So, why not purchase an affordable transportation pass for your children to visit all of these locations and more? The Fayetteville Area System of Transit (FAST) is making that opportunity possible by offering an unlimited ride pass for youth age 18 and under. For $15, youth can receive unlimited rides on FAST buses from June 1 through Aug. 31. Summer Fun Passes can be purchased with cash only at the FAST Transit Center, located at 147 Old Wilmington Road. Customers can purchase the pass with cash, credit card or debit card at the FAST Administrative Office, located at 455 Grove St. If purchasing the pass at Grove Street with cash, it needs to be exact change. City Announces Upcoming Boards and Commissions Fall Vacancies The City of Fayetteville is looking to its citizens to help fill upcoming vacancies for the following boards and commissions: Animal Control Board (City recommendation to County board) Fair Housing Board (1 Attorney, 1 at-large) Fayetteville City Planning Commission Fayetteville City Zoning Commission Fayetteville-Cumberland Human Relations Commission Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks & Recreation Advisory Board Fayetteville Public Works Commission Historic Resources Commission Joint City-County Appearance Commission Joint Fayetteville-Cumberland Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Stormwater Advisory Board The City will accept applications via the City website at www.FayettevilleNC.gov. Citizens should click on Government and choose Boards and Commissions under the City Council section. Applications will be accepted until midnight Monday, July 31. All qualified applications will be presented to the Appointments Committee in August. The Fayetteville City Council will approve boards and commissions members at a regular meeting in September. City Receives Additional $1.85 Million in Grants from Golden LEAF The City of Fayetteville has received an additional $1.85 million in grants from the Golden LEAF Foundation to provide relief for projects related to Hurricane Matthew recovery efforts. This new funding will be applied to the following projects: $993,000 for additional debris removal from four creeks - Branson Creek, Blounts Creek, Hybarts Branch and Buckhead Creek, and $873,831 for Spruce Street drainage. These two grants are on top of the $1.2 million grant the City received in April that paid for the removal of debris from Cross Creek and the replacement of a road destroyed during Hurricane Matthew near Rayconda. The Golden LEAF Foundation is committed to using the funds entrusted to it by the General Assembly through the Disaster Recovery Act of 2016 for projects that provide for repair or replacement of infrastructure damaged from Hurricane Matthew or other natural disasters.
