CUMBERLAND Health Department Offers Kindergarten Physicals co.cumberland.nc.us Find us on social media The Cumberland County Department of Public Health provides physicals for children entering Kindergarten in the fall. Physicals are available during Child Health Clinic hours Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Evening hours until 7 p.m. are available the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. State law requires any child entering kindergarten to get a physical. The clinic also provides physicals to students who are new to the North Carolina public school system. Fees for service are based on family size and income. For appointments, call 910-433-3600, extension 1. The Health Department is located at 1235 Ramsey St. The Child Health Clinic is on the first floor. Hope Mills Library To Celebrate 25 Years This year marks the 25th anniversary of the opening of Hope Mills Branch library. To commemorate the occasion, the public is invited to a special program at the library, located at 3411 Golfview Road, on June 10 at 2:30 p.m. The original library was a 1,400 square-foot room established in 1960 and located upstairs in the Hope Mills Town Hall. The town of Hope Mills donated three acres along Golfview Drive behind the fire stations for the current library. The building cost was $1.7 million when it was constructed. Friends of the Library members, families and library-lovers of all ages are invited to enjoy the commemoration of the Hope Mills Branch with cake and crafts. Youth 4-H Offers Summer Fun Activities Environmental Health Receives Award Cumberland County Cooperative Extension offers 4-H Summer Fun programs for children ages 5-18 at the Agriculture Center, located at 301 E. Mountain Dr., Fayetteville. Programs in June are listed below: • It's Electric will be June 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for ages nine and up. Youth will learn how eletricity works and create their own circuits. The cost is $20. The deadline to register is June 8. • The Farm to Kitchen Kids Day Camp will be June 20-23 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The program is for ages 9-12. Children will visit local farmers to see where food is grown and harvested and cook their own dishes. There is a $40 fee and the deadline to register is June 13. Cumberland County Environmental Health received the North Carolina Public Health Association's Outstanding Public Health Award during an educational conference April 27. Environmental Health was recognized for its work with the Food and Drug Administration's voluntary Retail Program Standards and for its continued quality improvements to its Food and Lodging section. Environmental Health is a division of the Public Health Department responsible for restaurant, lodging and well water inspections.
