2 Eta Chapter Bands Together for a Successful Spring at Ole Miss T his spring, the Eta Chapter has experienced outstanding growth and proliferation in community service, campus involvement, academic excellence, and extracurricular integrity. We are proud to have advanced to the second-highest GPA of all fraternities on the Ole Miss campus. Our scholarship chairman has implemented several incentives, as well as study aids, that have proven useful in improving the grades and studies of our members. We had great participation from our members in successful philanthropies, including a 5K for the OleMissions Haiti Mission Trip (organized by two of our Sigma Chi brothers); Coaching for Literacy pro-education philanthropy (raised $14,500; organized by Consul Sam Fowlkes '18); and the Ole Miss Big Event philanthropy. We congratulated five brothers on becoming Rebels Against Sexual Assault peer educators, as well as several brothers becoming student wellness ambassadors for the Ole Miss Health Promotions Office. Our officers worked alongside the Parents Club to plan our Spring Parents' Party, which took place on April 7 and 8. We were very excited to host an event that incorporated our parents who have contributed so much to our success. Another event created by our social chairmen this spring is the Memphis Grizzlies date party. We will attend the Grizzlies basketball game as a fraternity and bring dates. Our recruitment chairmen have worked hard on plans for the rest of the spring, summer, and fall. Summer events include recruitment events in Jackson, Mississippi; Atlanta, Georgia; Memphis, Tennessee; and Oxford, Mississippi. We will also have our skeet shoot, bible studies, and ultimate Frisbee tournaments as events for the summer. The two fraternity bands, Seven South and Ebenezer Goodman, have been featured in multiple Oxford newspapers and have played shows across the city and state. Seven South, featuring members Michael Reddoch '19, Johny Hallow '18, Collin Curtin '19, and Stephen Elgin '19, played at Kappa Kappa Gamma's formal, Chi Omega's crawfish boil philanthropic event, and a host of other places. Ebenezer Goodman played a Kappa Delta date party, weddings, and shows all across Mississippi, ranging from Holly Springs to Starkville. The bands combined forces this spring to win Bonnamu, a battle of the bands philanthropic event hosted by Phi Mu. In less interesting news, a few of our members channeled their inner Shaquille O'Neal and shattered the backboard of our basketball goal—much to the chagrin of our consul and quaestor. We have since obtained a replacement backboard and are working on the addition of a tetherball court that sophomore Tyler Tinney '19 is spearheading. This year has been one of striking achievements for the fraternity, and we are optimistic about the coming years. In hoc, Sam Fowlkes '18 Consul srfowlke@go.olemiss.edu Left: Reflecting on an amazing week of the Lord's work during a spring break service trip in Haiti. Hunter '86 entered Chapter Eternal on February 23 at his home in Oxford. Kevin's interests and business ventures included arena football, NASCAR, casino development, and an advertising agency. He was an active member of the Oxford-University United Methodist Church, and was a former leader of the FISH Club (First in Serving Him Youth Group). Kevin is survived by his wife, Sloan, and his children, Samuel '16 and Lilly. He is also survived by his mother, brother, sister-in-law, and nieces. Eta brothers attend a memorial to honor the life of Kevin Hunter '86, who passed away on February 23 in Oxford.
