From First Baptist Church of Quartzsite We would like to thank all the people that jumped in to action to construct a basketball court for the youth at the First Baptist Church. During the last monsoon, the temporary basketball hoop system was slammed into the concrete and was demolished. The youth could not play basketball. A loaner was brought down to the church but we knew it would not be long before that could be damaged as well. Community members sprang into action to erect a permanent struc- ture that could withstand storms. Steve Bennett from Cool Cov- ers donated the steel beams and welded the structure. Fred Hull transported the beams from Wick- enburg to the church. Sean Austin from Rice Ranch donated his labor, time, and gas of the backhoe to dig a hole for the 14 foot poles in the ground. Roy Austin and Bob Cleveland from RJK Construction donated cement, paint and labor to install the poles in the ground. Huggy Dill, Don Dill, Kathy Kneer donated a total of $450.00 to pur- chase the backboards. The Wister Family painted the poles. James Wilkins donated two brand new basketballs. We couldn't have done this project without the generosity of our com- munity. Now when the children arrive for youth they run straight to the basketball court. Drive by and see what our community does when we work together! Thank you so very much!!!! A group of car enthusiasts got to- gether and arranged for a bi-week- ly Cruise-In to be held Saturday in the parking lot of Carl's Jr. in Quartzsite. The group moved re- cently from their gathering at the VFW Post. The next Cruise In will be held Saturday, April 22nd. This event is free for the classic car and hot-rod owners as well as the visitors and is open to all. The group is encouraging people to come and see the classics, antiques and hot- rods, get something to eat and spend a fun evening with family and friends. The group also encourages the participation of children so that they can get a taste of the hobby. Car buffs are welcome to check out the gathering of old, classic and vin- tage cars every other Saturday start- ing at 4pm. Cruise-in returns Read Desert MESSENGER ONLINE @ www.MyQuartzsite.com
