It is QPD's new motto of "Our Community, Our Commitment" has driven the depart- ment to be ac- tively involved in more community events of great importance such as the Law En- forcement Special Olympics Torch Run. The Department is asking the community, as a whole, to not only participate or contribute, but be aware of our special needs chil- dren locally who participate in this program. QPD will raise money in several ways to help contribute to this special and important program year-round. In the past, the depart- ment and contributing sponsors contributed over $800 within a few short weeks. Currently the police department will be taking orders and selling T-shirts for the event for only $20 to help raise some of the contributions for the Special Olympics. On May 3rd, QPD and any person willing to participate in the event will meet at the Quartzsite Fire Dept. at 70 E. Tyson parking lot at 6:30am where waivers will be signed. Participants can Walk, Run or Cycle the route. Our portion of the Run With the Torch will begin at the Fire Station at approximately 7am, heading south on Cen- tral Ave, east on Main Street and will end at ap- proximately 9am at the Chevron Gas Station at 41 Riggles Rd. Participants will be escorted by Police vehicles during the run. The Torch will then be handed off to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Offi ce so they can escort the Torch towards the City of Phoenix where the Special Olympics will be held. Breakfast will be provided after the run (location to be determined soon.) If any business or center wants to provide a location and service, please contact our coor- dinators.
