March 15, 2017 www.DesertMessenger.com 21 PARTY FROM PAGE 1 taken it to heart and made it what it is today. We have just opened up a new area in the Gardens called the He- roes Bell Garden, which you can see off to the left as you are driving in to the entrance of the Gardens. The town workers put up the pole arch- way and hung the two huge bells, which were donated years ago by Howard Armstrong who used to own the Main Event. The area will have the bells in the middle, with a walkway around and a rock garden in the center bed. Along the perim- eter of this central archway will be several monuments honoring the sacrifices and the work still be- ing done by the military, fire dept., search and rescue, law enforcement, and others who put their lives on the line in their jobs to help others. The party will be held at the pa- vilion just across from the Gardens, and will have a free barbecue lunch of hot dogs, hamburgers or cheese- burgers, salads, beans, drinks and desserts starting to serve at noon. There will be donation cans set up in case anyone can donate some- thing towards the cost of the food. There is a special raffle this year of a beautiful handmade quilt that was made and donated to the Gardens by Jean Winters, former owner of the Shady Lane RV Park, who has now retired to Bouse. Tickets for the quilt are $1 each or 6 for $5 and are available now at the Business Chamber office and also at Read- ers' Oasis Bookstore until the day of the party when they will be sold at the party and the winning ticket will be drawn there. There will be several other prizes also given out after the main prize of the quilt is drawn. The music entertainment this year will again be provided by Nick Waite and his friends playing some great country music, and also Paul Winer and some members of his group-- Steve Hohstadt and Bud- dy Apfel playing boogie/woogie, blues, jazz, some country, and even a gospel song or two. Be sure to bring a chair, some shade for your head, your stompin' shoes, and your appetite! Come and enjoy this special day with us and if you are so inclined and haven't done it yet, take a tour of the Gardens while you are there. It really is one of the most peaceful and unique places you will ever visit, and it was done with lots of love and many hearts and hands.
