This recipe for bistro steak and Mediterranean potato medley is from www. BeefCookOff.org. 2 well-trimmed boneless beef top loin (strip) steaks, cut inch thick (6 to 8 ounces each) 1 tablespoon plus 2 tea- spoons olive oil, divided 3 teaspoons Greek sea- soning blend, divided 2 large red potatoes, cut in inch slices 2 zucchini (about six inches) cut lengthwise in quarters 1 cup red seedless grapes, halved 1/3 cup pitted Kalamata olives, halved 2 tablespoons chopped Italian parsley 2 tablespoons crumbled reduced-fat feta cheese 1. Rub both sides of steaks with 2 teaspoons oil and 2 teaspoons Greek seasoning 2. Combine potatoes, zucchini, remaining oil and Greek seasoning in medium bowl; toss gently to coat veg- etables. 3. Place vegetables in grill basket over medium, ash-covered coals 15 to 20 minutes (over medium heat on gas grill) or until cooked but still firm. Place steaks alongside vegetables on grid over medium-ash covered coals; grill steaks, covered, 7 to 10 minutes (over me- dium heat on preheated gas grill, covered, 7 to 10 min- utes) for medium-rare (145 degrees) to medium (160 de- grees) doneness, turning oc- casionally. 4. Remove vegetables and steaks from grill; cut vege- tables into inch pieces. Carve steak into thin slices. 5. Combine cooked vege- tables, grapes, olives, pars- ley and feta cheese in me- dium bowl; stir gently to combine. Serve steak with potato mixture. Makes 4 servings. Total preparation and cooking time: 40 minutes. REALTORS Association offers scholarships to seniors According to reports compiled by the forest service, the recent cam- paign for the extermina- tion of rabid coyotes in Modoc and Lassen coun- ties waged during 1916 by the forest service, the California state board of health, the federal health service, and the biologi- cal survey resulted in the destruction of 2,707 coy- otes and 178 wildcats. In addition, county re- cords show that during the same period bounties were paid on 1,474 coyote scalps. Figures compiled by state board of health indicate that 362 head of cattle, 39 head of horses, 233 sheep and 18 swine died from rabies or sus- pected rabies during that period. Hundreds of head of stock found dead are also supposed to have died from rabies, but proof was not posi- tive. Laboratory exami- nations of the brains of 127 domestic and wild an- imals gave positive tests of this disease. — Feb. 15, 1917 100 YEARS AGO... Arrests BrandonJohnPerez: 30,ofCorningwasar- rested Friday in the 11800 block of Rawson Road and booked into jail on the charges of injuring spouse or cohabitant, possession of controlled substance while armed, possession of controlled substance for sale, possession of firearm by felon and transporting controlled substance. Bail was $70,000. Larry Ray Davis: 35, of Corning was arrested Sat- urday in the area of Lincoln and Grant and booked into jail on the charges of conspiracy to commit crime, possess controlled substance, possession of controlled substance paraphernalia and receiving known stolen property. Khalil Rashad Hadley: 19, of Red Bluff was arrested Saturday in the 400block of Wiltsey and booked into jail on the charges of crimi- nal threats, two counts of battery, false identification and vandalism. Heather Anne Wilson: 41, of Corning was arrested Saturday in the area of Lincoln and Grant booked into jail on the charge of burglary, conspiracy to commit crime, and posses- sion of controlled sub- stance. Aaron Patrick Valentine: 40, of Red Bluff was ar- rested Sunday in the 1500 block of Garyanna Drive and booked into jail on the charge of assault with force: great bodily injury likely, false imprisonment with violence and inflicting corporal injury. Anita Louise Thayer: 38, of Red Bluff was arrested Sunday in the 600block of Cowles Avenue and booked into jail on the charge of battery on peace officer or emergency personnel, disorderly conduct: alcohol and resist executive officer. Bail was $15,000. Burglary 500block Wernmark Drive: A residence was bro- ken into sometime between Sunday and Monday and several items were taken. Disturbance Davis Road: A disturbance reportedly took place Sun- day where the man involved made threats to burn the house down. Missing Oren Avenue: A black and white Papillon dog was missing from a Corning residence. Shots McLane Avenue: A Corning resident reported about 12:30a.m. Monday that someone had shot at their residence. Suspicious Florence Avenue: A wom- an reported finding some- one hiding in her closet about 3:30a.m. Sunday. Sixth Avenue: A Corning resident reported about 2 a.m. Monday that someone tried to break into their vehicle in front of their resi- dence. A woman was seen running eastbound at the time the alarm went off. Fig Lane: A man reported coming home about 10:15 p.m. Monday to find two people inside his residence. The Sister Mary Columba Drive: A vehicle was broken into Sunday night at St. Elizabeth Community Hospital. South Jackson Street: A purse was stolen from a vehicle at Creekside Village Apartments. Samson Avenue: Wallets and radios were missing from an unlocked vehicle. Items were believed to have been taken Friday evening. Everett Freeman Way: A woman reported her credit card and cell phone were stolen while at Rolling Hills Casino. A separate incident with was report- ed about 3 a.m. Tuesday in which a vehicle in the south parking lot was broken into. Glasgow Drive: Tools and equipment were stolen from a storage building. Dewitt Avenue: A resident caught people trying to steal items about 8p.m. Sunday. Parey Avenue: A resident at the Bow River Mobile Home Park reported items had been stolen from their residence within the last two months.
