BySusanKanode SpecialtotheDailyNews DENVER Two action-packed rodeo performances saw big changes in the leaderboard at the National Western Stock Show Ro- deo on Thursday. At the morning performance, Kellie Collier from Hereford, Texas, made the fastest run of the rodeo here so far at 15.23 sec- onds. That was her second round of competition and gave her com- mand of the overall standings. Collier, who won the Colorado VS the World title on opening day has a total time of 30.72 seconds. However, that may not last. On Thursday night, Katie Pascoe from Morro Bay, Calif., stopped the clock in 15.22 sec- onds, the new fast time of the rodeo. This was her first run in the Denver Coliseum so she has a great opportunity to take the lead. She will have her second round of competition on Friday, Jan. 20 at the matinee performance. Pascoe's rodeo roots run deep. She is the daughter and grand- daughter of world champion steer wrestlers who were both cham- pions here. Her father, John W. Jones Jr., won the all-around title in Denver in 1982 and the steer wrestling in 1991. Her grandfa- ther John W. Jones won the steer wrestling in 1956. If Katie has a fast time here on Friday, she will qualify for Sun- day's U.S. Bank Championship Fi- nals and could be the third gener- ation of the family to earn a Na- tional Western Stock Show Rodeo title. There is a new leader in the first round of saddle bronc riding as well. Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier Tyler Corrington, from Hastings, Minn., rode Cal- gary Stampede's Xena Warrior for an 87. This is the highest sad- dle bronc ride in this year's ro- deo. Corrington will ride his sec- ond horse here on Friday. Current Leaders Bareback Riding: (first round) RODEO NationalWesternStockShowleaderboardseeschanges By Kristie Rieken The Associated Press HOUSTON Kevin Durant scored 32 points and the Golden State Warriors used a big third quar- ter to build a huge lead and coast to their sixth straight vic- tory, 125-108 over the Houston Rockets on Friday night. In a matchup of two of the best teams in the Western Conference and All-Star start- ing guards Stephen Curry and James Harden, the Rockets fell short. Houston, which entered the game leading the NBA with 667 3-pointers, was just 7 of 35 behind the arc. Harden went 0 for 5 and Eric Gordon, who en- tered the game leading the NBA with 160 3s, missed all seven at- tempts. Clint Capela had 22 points and Harden added 17 points with 11 assists for the Rockets, who are third in the West be- hind Golden State and San An- tonio. The Warriors were up by five at halftime and used a 12-4 run to open the second half and stretch their lead to 74-61 with about nine minutes left in the quarter. Golden State got six points from Durant in that span, including a dunk and a nifty re- verse layup. Houston got four points from Capela after that before Golden State used a 10-2 run, with 3s from Draymond Green and Curry, to make it 84-67 midway through the period. Golden State pushed the lead to 99-79 entering the fourth quarter. Houston won the first game against Golden State this sea- son in two overtimes to snap an eight-game, regular-season los- ing streak to the Warriors. But it was clear the Rockets wouldn't make it two in a row after they scored just 22 points and went 0 for 10 on 3-pointers in the third quarter. Houston scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 99-84. But Golden State used a 9-4 run af- ter that to extend its lead to 20 points by the midpoint of the quarter, and many fans started heading for the exits.
