See Celia by Joanne Winer The annual Author's Fair held at the Reader's Oasis Bookstore on E. Main St. in Quartzsite has been going for a couple of weeks now, and several new authors have been added to those who have come back again. Any author who wants to come and set up a table and sell their books is welcome to come to the bookstore where a special can- opy has been set aside (as well as around the front porch), where au- thors can greet potential customers and tell them about the books they have written, how they write, what you need to have to write etc. It is also a place where the authors can meet each other and learn some of the trade secrets from those who have experience with getting your book published. One of the new authors to the fair this year is well-known writer Buddy Hannah, former Air Force who spent 11 years there before re- tiring. He has written 11 books so far, is working on his 12th, and has brought the fi rst 4 that have been published by Tate Publishing. Bud- dy has traveled extensively around the country selling his books at fairs and booksignings, and has sold over 500,000 books so far. He is listed in the New York Times.and has books available in paperback, hard cover and ebooks. Buddy is from Golden Valley, Az. and is a member of one of the 7 Cherokee Clans. His stories in the series called Eagle Bear series are based on the tales in the 1700s of the Wolf Clan, which is now called the Warrior Clan. They are histori- cal fi ction based on some family his- tory, with lots of action and adven- ture, and you can learn a lot about how Indians, the First Americans, lived and raised their families. The fi rst 4 books which are now at the fair include "Eagle Bear" "Eagle Bear meets Buffalo Man (who was 1/2 Cherokee and 1/2 mountain man), Eagle Right Claw (who was the son of Buffalo Man) and Eagle Left Man", and "Red Eagle",( son of Right Claw). The next books in the series will be out soon as well. The second new author to the bookstore this year is Helen Kline from Marble, Colorado. Helen has been writing for years, and loves to do it. She now has 3 books at the fair which are based loosely on his- torical fact. The fi rst one is called "Grandma Ida" and is about immi- grants from Sweden who came to this country to homestead on Grand Mesa in 1865.. Her second book is a sequel called "Aully's Journal, and tells about Aully's travels from the time he left at 17 to become a moun- tain man/ prospector in the Cana- dian Rockies. After his many ad- ventures, he ended up in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Her third book is titled :Cry of the Hawk", a story about a Cheyenne War Chief from Wisconsin when it was still a territory, who left with 15 warriors and moved to northern Minnesota and later Canada. Part two of the book is about is youmg son Little Hawk who went in search of him years later and of the adven- tures he encountered. She is plan- ning to release her next two books very soon. Ron Lazenby is also back again this season. He and his wife Ann live in the high desert in southern California now, but he was born and raised in Blythe, California. He has been writing for many years, and his wife Ann helps with the typing and editing. His fi rst book, "Wild Horse Junction" started his career as a writer, and he now has several more books available--including "Showdown at Castle Ranch", He has a 3 story book with the short stories "Thunder in the Hills", Western Justice, and The Bounty Hunter". He also has one called "Who is Court Mundy?" and his newest release is "Arizona Ranger". Ron spent 21 years in the Air Force and still has family in Blythe. All his books are fi ction, and based in the west in the 1880's and 1890s. One of our favorites is also back for another winter, Stu Campbell from Granby, Colorado. He has been coming for several years, and it is always good to see him every winter. Stu is a very prolifi c writer with several stand alone books and a new series for young adults that any age would like. He spent many years as a guide for horse trail rides on a dude ranch, and his fi rst fi ve books are about his experiences with and around horses and dudes. They are "Humor Around Horses", "Horsin' around the Dudes", "More Humor around Horses", "Horsing around a lot", and his newest "Com- edy around Cowboys." They are all very humorous and most of them have a little embellishment about his experiences. Stu (he jokes that it is not short for stupid), also has written a series for young adults and is happy to know that a lot of adults like these stories too. The fi rst book "A Young Cowboy's Adventure continues with "Honey", "Surprise", "Frozen", "Ex- pectations", "Intruders", "Advice", "Broken" and "Ginny" His newest books also include "Wild Horses for Wild Kids", "The kids get Horses", and his stand alone new book "Mud- dy Waters". Stu travels all over the country as well, and his books are found in many libraries and west- ern stores. A good book needs a good cover, and artist Larry Ross Jones, who lives in Bouse, has done the covers for many of Stu's books, is working on more, and is also being asked by Helen Kline to design some covers for her next 2 books. Larry has an art studio in his house and has lived there since 1993, and his house is SEE AUTHORS PAGE 14
