It will be held at the James B. Colwell Field, 780 N. Plymouth Ave. in Quartzsite. The opening ceremo- nies are scheduled to commence at 9:00 am with the playing of the na- tional anthem and a fl y-past salute to the Stars and Stripes. Everyone is welcome; all that is needed is an in- terest in radio controlled fl ying. We are expecting fi ve or six profes- sional and semi-pro fl yers from Cal- ifornia, Idaho and British Colum- bia as well as local fl yers from our club and from clubs in Yuma, Lake Havasu City and Phoenix. Specta- tors are welcome to bring their own chairs or can take advantage of the spectator stands. Unfortunately, due to health regulations, we are unable to provide a lunch to the general public. Hope to see you there. 20th Annual HAM Radio Quartzfest A Very Unique Ham Radio Gathering comes to Quartzsite Jan. 22-28, 2017 QuartzFest offers something for ev- eryone! If you're not an amateur ra- dio operator yet, or if you want to up- grade your license to a higher class, you'll be able to take your exam's right there at Quartzfest* and have your call sign or upgrade from the FCC by weeks end. With more than 100 ham radio classes and hands-on programs and its unique desert set- ting, QuartzFest offers much more for the entire family! Hundreds of Hams and their fami- lies and friends choose to unplug from their daily lives, travel to and setup this desert community, and immerse themselves in this week- long one-of-a-kind ham radio, camping, learning and living event. The educational classes at Quartz- Fest offer participants the chance to put hands-on the latest technology, learn ham radio for the fi rst time, study advanced radio theory and to even take a glimpse into the future of radio science. The learning also continues well-beyond the technical lectures all the way from morning cof- fee... through social events, music, arts and crafts classes during the day... and into the evening while sitting around the campfi re or while star-gazing. If you've never attended Quartzfest, you've missed out on a HAM Experi- ence of a lifetime. Maybe you'd like to attend but you feel uncomfortable because you don't know anyone who will be at Quartzfest*. Well, you will! Website: www.quartzfest.org Arizona Game and Fish Depart- ment will host an open house for the grand opening of Planet Ranch for Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) travel across the Bill Williams Riv- er from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 21, 2017. There will be an offi cial ribbon cut- ting at the south gate at noon. Several local OHV clubs are sched- uling club rides to participate in the event. The public is invited to attend. To reach the event take Shea Road from HWY 95, go 22 miles, turn right on dirt road, go 1.8 miles to Planet Ranch road on Left and go 3.8 miles to entrance of Planet Ranch and follow road to Open House.
