44 www.DesertMessenger.com January 18, 2017 Submitted by Linda Taylor We certainly had to bundle up for a chilly round of golf at our last tour- nament. Cloudy skies and winds prevailed until all but a few foursomes had fi nished. Despite the weather, we had four teams tie for the best rounds of the day. Each of the following teams fi red exceptional rounds of 38: Bud Key & Bob Carrington, Jim Mathews & Russ Leininger, David Hopkins & Jerry Taylor, and Dino Linden & Harvey Gibson. It's the fi rst time for a four-way tie for fi rst place in the 5 years of our scramble tourna- ments! Other low scores of the day came from Cletus Winkler and Kit Wilkins who fi red a 40. They were closely followed by Dean Harrington and Bill Toner who shot a 42. The closest to the pin on # 8 was a hole-in-one by Harvey Gibson while there was a tie for closest to the pin on #9 with holes-in-one by both Bill Toner and Russ Leininger. It seemed to be a great day for holes-in-one as Dino Linden got an ace on #12, Bud Key aced #17 and the longest ace was hit by Kit Wilkins on the par 4 #18 hole. Long drive for men was won by Don Clark and Cletus Winkler, while long drive for women was won by Linda Taylor. Our fi nal tournament for the season will be played at 9 on Friday, January 26. Hope to see warmer temps and a bunch of eager golfers!
